Dual Proc. Opteron Mobo?

post #1 of 5

Howdy all,
I'm looking for something to replace my Dual Proc. Xeon System. It looks like my best bet performance wise would be a Dual Opteron 280 system; However I can't seem to find a Mobo for that. As things stand, it looks like my Dual 2.8 is a bit lagging, and since I only buy a Dual Proc. Sys. once every 2 years or so, I'm now pondering the Power of the Opteron. Any feedback? Anyone know of a good Mobo? Problems or issues? Thanks!

JK

Dual 940 opterons are not going to be cheap

Monarch has an array of gigabyte and tyan boards for running two processors.

Thanks Guys;

Actually Money isn't really an issue (well its always an issue); as its for business and will pay for itself with Depreciation, and jobs. I do Special effects for film, TV, and Concerts. So, it won't be a gamer (don't think I ever played a game on the Xeon box). After I do a tally of all cost; I bet it will still be cheaper then a few of my SGI's and Dual proc. Stuff. I USED to think that prebuilt workstations were the best, however it appears I can get more performance, and control over my parts with a built system. I guess the last question is; do ya think the Dual 940 opterons is my best bet? or should I wait for the next chipset coming around the corner? again Thanks!
