ahh the old nes fun till it breaks a common problim and what we can do about it.

Thread Starter
greetings, I like many of you have a NES sitting in my closset because it broke down on me. but what some of you may not know is why. when you put in the cartrege and press down you slowly warp the pens ( or so i have been told). eventily it breaks down leaving your tv blinking on and off. so the question is what do we do about it? well we can either keep buying anouther old nes that will soon do the same thing, or we can try and find a solution i.e. getting a replacement part and fixing it. what i would like to do on this thread is to get all who have had this problim and any others with the NES to come and put our combined knowlage to find ways to keep our counsles working as cheeply as possible. with this thought I leave you to place your posts. thanks.

I know the problem, it isn't the bending of the pins, it is the piece that connects the cartridge to the mainboard, THIS piece. I bought 2 new ones last summer to replace the one I had in my NES, fixed the problem perfectly, these new ones don't corrode/get dirty nearly as fast as the originals. I forgot where I got these things, possibly on eBay, they were pretty cheap though.

That's exactly the problem. I've had 2 NES's in my life, the original one I got when it was still sort of new, and I bought one a year ago because my mom got rid of my other one. And on both of them I had to do this, you can get them on eBay for like $4 or $5 plus shipping. They are called "72-pin connectors"

And yes, that is a common problem for the good ol' NES's.

But buying it and replacing that part was worth playing Super Mario Bros. 3 again!

Some times the game doesnt load and you need to pull out the cartridge to blow on it. This makes it work, but lot of people say not to blow on the cartridges, as it may damage them over time, is there a better way of cleaning the contacts without having to take the cartridge apart and get some solvent to clean them?
