Intel Pentium dual core good for gaming?

Thread Starter
Hey,a friend of mine just got an HD5750,we tried it out but it didn't work very well in games like COD world at war and i think it is because he has a pentium 4 single core 3.0 ghz and its on the minimum requirements of the game.
Is a pentium dual core a good deal to play these kind of games?,i'm not considering the core 2 duo because they are much more expensive.
Thanks in advance.

depends on which pentium. I think you'd be fine with like a e6300 or something. Maybe even an e5200/5300

The OP stated he has a Pentium 4, which is a MASSIVE bottleneck for that video card.

World at War is supports multi-core processors, so yeah. A dual core, even better a quad, would be great in the way of upgrades.

Did he build it himself? The pentium dual cores would suffice if he overclocked it a little, and if his mobo can handle some voltage bumps.

I ran a overclocked Pentium D 945 on my 4890, I play codwaw & codMW1, I was always dropping frame rates, I know e5200 etc has better architecture than 945 but it was bearable.

I'd say mild oc on the cpu to push that kind card, it'll be ok.

Edit:^
prob get around 60fps on waw & 80-90fps on codmw1

I had a Pentium D @ 3Ghz (925) prior to my current build, which was a fine chip in its day.

It had to go as it was slowing everything down. Depending on your budget and your mobo, Id suggest a quad core.

Keep in mind the 900 series tends to run hot. If you going to do that, make sure your cooler in up to it.

He dindn't build it himself but i changed the video card and helped him to get a new one.
I realised the cpu would be a bottleneck,so getting a pentium dual core e5300 and then oc it would be enough or should i go for the e6300?.

I was referring to the e5200 or higher to push the 5750 unless thats a 900 series.

I would not suggest to get a pentium d series lol. not with e5200 & above are out.
