Mass Effect 2 Physx problem..PLEASE HELP - Page 2

This is a misconception with PhysX. PhysX is a physics engine; it is not SOLELY used to run physics on your Nvidia card. It only installs the drivers so it can use them on the CPU. You don't need to worry about having an ATI card.
PhysX can't be turned off because I assume ME uses it for gameplay-oriented things like bullet collision detection and explosions.

please help...what can i do?
from what I understand, ME2 uses the Physx Engine, but doesn't support hardware accelerated physics acceleration. I am pretty sure you don't need an actual card, I believe its referring to the engine and you should try re-installing the game because it should of installed it with the game.

You can also disable phsyx in the config files of ME1, so i would think you could do it in ME2 - I don't know how though with that weird coalesced config file stuff.

I had this problem with mass Effect 2, which was my favorite. of the three.

When I would try to play the game it would say PhysX was not installed right.

And when I down loaded PhysX from Nvidia it would not install because the old version was somehow keeping it from updating.

I tried the legacy drivers and they would not install either thinking I might repair the old drivers installation first. This was the right idea, but the Lgacy drivers would not do it.

1. Finally I went back to the Nvidia latest drivers and read on the page [saw a link also] Where I could down load older PhysX drivers.

2. I got these older drivers, and installed them, and they installed perfectly.

3. then I installed the Latest Nvidia drivers, and although there was still some hic up with and old .MSI file in the wise install folder of Programs {x86)\Common

They did seem to finally install.
EDITED
***********************************
there were PhysX installation files in my \Mass Effect 2\__Installer\physx\redist However these would not install. I have no idea why, but they would not.

That is why I had to hunt for some that would install.
************************************
the game instantly responded, and loaded up fine.

I have no Idea how the PhysX files got corrupted, they were working fine, because I had been playing the game recently.

I have

Dual HD7770 AMD Radeon 1 Gig each total of 2 gig of Vid card Ram 9.012-121219a-152192C-ATI drivers

cards which one would think should make anything Nvidia non usable, but as I understand it PhysX [ Made by a third party company, and bought up like Vodoo by Nvidia] used the CPU to make its Graphics changes, there fore it is free floating, and has nothing to do with the Hard ware...I guess

Any way that is how I fixed my problem. biggrin.gif

I like how it always takes forever before someone gives a useful response on OCN.

If the game requests PhysX even if you have ATI, its because it has PhysX effects ran by CPU.
Mass Effect 2 has no GPU physx.
And you can always find these files in your game folder.
