I like it off on my current setup. I can set lower voltages, it's more stable & it runs cooler. Seems like win win to me.

there are reasons for Vdroop. its there to protect the CPU from voltage fluctuations

i have Vdroop on/LLC off for my E8400. if i was trying for benching or some fast OC runs, i might turn LLC on, but for everyday use and gaming, i have it off.

I think the key is simply to have an understanding of what you're doing. The problem is when people don't understand/realize the spike that occurs when llc is on (because it's not going to show up on typical monitoring apps). But as long as you understand that it's there and have an idea as to how much, cap your voltage levels with that taken into consideration, then it's all just personal pref. imho.

That said, I usually have it on.

so with llc on my vcore is 1.23750 and under load it goes to 1.24 is cpuid. With llc off, same vcore, it drops substancialy down to like 1.17vcore and crashes. why would i turn off llc>? Someone help lol i don't get it.

Well, may be an over simplification, but:

Basically, with llc on your voltage spikes when it transitions from idle to load. Think like you're holding your hand out straight and catch a 5lb ball. You're hand is going to move down b/c of the balls momentum before you naturally 'rebound' your hand back to it's original position. Similar to what happens here w/ your voltage. Generally, the spike happens so quickly that you're not going to see it on a monitoring app. But a basic assumption is that the amount of this spike is roughly equivalent to the amount of vdroop you see when llc is disabled. Emphasis on "assumption" & "roughly".

That said, the circumstance in which it's generally not the greatest idea to enable llc is when you're setting very high voltages, or voltages close to the rated max (all depending on your personal comfort level of course). Because during said spikes, the voltage your chip is getting is actually a fair amount more than what you actually set it to.

The problem is when people are totally oblivious to it and set their chip at 1.45/1.5 (or whatever, chip depending) w/ it on and then wonder what happened when their chip degrades or takes a poo.

yes there is the possibility that it will degrade your chip faster.
but the way i see it is your already overclocking and thats degrading your chip by pushing it unrated speeds. of course we try and avoid it by said "stabilizing" it. and imo thats a reason why its so important to make sure your chips stable by testing it.

ive actually been testing LLC w/ my new Bios update and ive grown quite fond of it an even have it on right now.

anyone else?
im interested in your opinions

Not true. If you read the "truth about temperature and voltage" thread, Intel lists the factors that play into chip longevity - voltage is one of them, clock speed is not.

Quote:
1.) Electrical Specification must be satisfied (1.55v for 65nm Core 2 Series and 1.45v for 45nm Core 2 Series, 45nm Core i7/i5 list 1.55v as their maximum, and 32nm Core i5 list as 1.40v. Make sure you check all other voltage specifications for VTT and CPU PLL. (Dram voltage on the i7 is a different story).

2.) Signal Quality must be clear (Overclock must be perfectly stable, GTL lanes may need to be tweaked)

3.) Mechanical specifications met (There is not a physical defect and the insides have not previously been gutted by running 1.9v through it)

4.) Thermal Specifications must be satisfied (The IHS temp must be below Tcase)

According to Intel, "Within functional operation limits, functionality and long-term reliability can be expected." This says nothing about running over stock voltages or stock clocks. Only that you need to be stable, cool, below the maximum voltage, and mechanically sound at any speed.
OC responsibly and there's no reason the chip's life has to be decreased.
