PowerColor X1800XT 512MB any good?

This appears to be selling on a website for £279 including VAT (That's 17.5% tax), which would be very decent. My friend wants a new computer, and I'm still not entirely sure which graphics card to recommend.

£279 would be a stretch for him, but he could afford it if it was worth it. The other option is a 7800GT, specifically the Leadtek 7800GT Boggy-Standard version.

For an extra £100, would the X1800XT 512MB be superior? IT seems cheap, especially considering that it's both an XT and a 512MB. I know that it was designed to target the GT, not the GTX, but is the added price worth it?

Hope someone knows something good about this card, I can't find much on google.

I just scored 8435 in 3dmark05 with stock everything (but Sapphire card).

I think it's worth it, but I am a fanboy

The X1800XT was made to target the 7800GTX and the 256MB X1800XL was made to target the 7800GT. The X1800XT will beat the 7800GTX (256MB) so its a whole step above the 7800GT. But theyre all good cards so it just depends on how much hes willing to spend.
Very nice!

My problem is, I don't know if the PowerColour 1800XT is actually an XT: for £279, I'm tempted to believe it's just CALLED an XT, but is instead just an XL with 512MB of RAM.

I dont think there are any 512MB XLs.

What are the clockspeeds? The XL runs at 500 core 1000 ddr memory. The XT runs at 625 core and 1.5 Ghz. ddr memory

- Powered by ATI Radeon R520XT GPU running at 625MHz
- Based on 0.09 micron manufacturing process
- 16 ultra efficient extreme pipelines
- 512MB GDDR3 Memory running at 1500MHz

But for £279? It seems too cheap to be true.

that's a lot of money, about 490 USD. that's just about the best price I've seen for it, but still a lot of money. If I were in the market for a high end computer, I'd wait for the R580 in the end of January.

I agree. It's a good price. My dillema is that I don't know whether it's significantly better than the 7800GT to warrant the extra £100, and whether it performs near enough to the 7800GTX not to make it more feasible just to take a large hit and get that.

It beats both the 7800GTX and GT. And for a good price.
