Okay...thanks but I can't get into Windows so all these things you guys are telling me are pointless. Please read this post and reply to it.

I dont know if any of you have read my old thread about all the BSODs and the like I had been getting, but I was getting a lot of BSODs, restarts, freezes, and disk boot errors, on stock. Well, I moved my sound card fom the top slot to the lowest slot and it seemed to be working. I even ran Prime95 all night last night with no errors. I thought I had fixed it, but when I got home today I wanted to try ocing again, since I've been at stock for about 2 weeks. And I also haven't really been able to test out the overclocking ability of my new G.SKILL ram because of all my BSODs and etc. So, I started trying to find my ram's limit, and when I only got to 240 mhz I got a disk boot error. This has happened many times in the past couple weeks, and the Windows disk did nothing, only resetting the CMOS would fix it. So I reset the CMOS and Windows started loading, and it would freeze on the same screen it has been freezing on, and then when I restart it I would get a disk boot error, and then repeat the process. So then I tried to enter my Windows disk and go through the recovery thing, which did nothing.

So I have narrowed the source of my problem down to three possible things: The first and most plausible in my opinion would be that something is wrong with my hard drive. The second thing I thing could be wrong has to do with my motherboard. And the final thing I might think could be causing my problems is my new RAM.

My hard drive has always seem messed up since I got my computer, from IBUYPOWER almost 2 months ago. About a week or two after getting my computer the slow startup problem thing started, and it's all been down hill from there. I've taken the Maxtor diagnostic test and it said that there was a "General Protection Fault" which I don't know how that is possible since the program runs like memtest, not in Windows. The only possible solutions I can see if my hard drive is the problem would be a buying a new one (which I really do not have the funds for right now), or formatting my current one. My question about formatting is that since I bought my computer from IBUYPOWER it only came with the Windows recovery disc, so could I format my hard drive with that disc, or would I have to buy a new Windows?

Second cause could be my motherboard, the only thing I really thing I really think could make the motherboard be the cause, is that today when I reading my mobo's manual it said that the default position for the CMOS jumper was on pins 1,2 and to reset it put it on 2,3 for ~10 seconds. When I took a look at the jumper on my mobo it was resting on the 2,3 pins while it was on. I have reset the CMOS probably around 20 times prior to today, so I was surprised to see that it was on the wrong pins. The manual also said something about taking off the CMOS or putting it on the wrong pins or something could lead to system boot failure...so I don't know if that could be the cause of my problems.

Third thing I can think of is my RAM. The first thing that makes me skeptical about the source of the problem being the RAM is that I had the same errors and slow startups before I got this RAM, not quite as frequent as now, but I still had them. Also, I have ran memtest several times with the RAM, today for 2 hours, and have never received an error. But all the BSODs and the like really sound like a RAM problem, especially since most of the BSODs I have gotten say the IRQL_DRIVER_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL...

So this is stuff is really starting to frusterate me, so help would be greatly appreciated and will glady rep anyone who can help me at all. And I would like to know if I'm going to format if I need to buy a new Windows disc or not. Thanks for your help guys!

It's okay, I just really need some help with this, and am about ready to throw my computer out the Window:swearing:

But, about the X-Fi I searched both the Asus and the Creative forums and found nothing to back up that statement. If anyone can help me out I would gladly give them reps.

Thanks, but they are saying stuff about an ACPI error, and I'm not getting that. Also, my computer has worked somewhat fine up until recently, and I've had the X-Fi in since I got the system.

They are getting the same BSOD's as you and thats exactly the problem i had put the fatal1ty in, started up fine - without re-formatting.

Try removing and unistalling your X-Fi see if you can boot up then using on-board audio!

Okay...I'll try removing and uninstalling it and seeing if I can get into Windows then. And if it does work, and I need to get a fatal1ty...I really don't want to have to buy a new one, does Creative pay for any of the replacement?

Okay, I took out my X-Fi, and my computer took 4 minutes to start up, but it started up nonetheless. But my mouse was so laggy it would have been impossible to use the computer. So, I went into device manager and saw that my Marvell Yukon Ethernet was disabled and for some reason I thought to enable it and disable my nVidia ethernet. So I rebooted, and it was a fast Windows loading screen, and the mouse isn't lagging at all. So, as of right now it seems to be working, but should I try ocing again just to make sure it's working? But, I really don't want to have this happen again.
