Which SATA ports do you use?

To all Abit IC7 owners. What sata ports do you use for your raid setup. I am using the Silicon Image RAID controller on ports 3 and 4 and can't overclock worth a dime. On ABITs forums a guy is using the 1 and 2 ports controlled by the South Bridge and has achieved bus speeds of 295 mhz. Its to my understanding though the 3 and 4 ports are controlled by the PCI frequency. Which ones should I use. Im getting the idea that ports 3 and 4 are not locked as I get errors and corrupted files past 240 FSB with lots of voltage (1.5v).

Also, if I do switch RAID controllers I'm going have to do a complete reinstall of and format of the drives or can I just plug the drives into 1 and 2 and only have to reformat my windows partition?

The Silicon Image SATA controller does run through the PCI bus but the 875P supports AGP/PCI locking so the controller should be running at 33 MHz. WHat is your PCI set to? Is it locked?

Perhaps heat is the problem... At 240 MHz, your P4 3.2E will be running at 3.84 GHz. Oh what is the chipset voltage?

I do not believe you will have to reinstall if you change the HDD channel. You might have to reinstall a few drivers though.

Thanks for the reply!

Heat doesnt seem to be the issue - I havent seen temps above 60C. the AGP/PCI is locked at 33/66. Im not quite sure on the chipset voltage. I haven't even touched that. Maybe I will try that out. From what I can remember - it runs at 1.55v.

And see I can post all the way up to 245FSB - but Windows isnt stable.

Chipset voltage plays a key role in overclocking, with my old IC7-MAX3 I couldn't get 300+ MHz unless the chipset voltage was 1.65V. I would try raising that first, also what do you have cooling that thing?

XP-90 on the processor with a tornado and a delta 155 cfm 120 mm on the back of the case. I still have just the stock hsf on the northbridge.
