Can anyone help a noob out?

I'm planning on building a waterblock at school using my school's machinery(They have everything you need to build anything really). I'm going to be building it out of an aluminum(i dont have access to copper ) chunk that my welding teacher found. I have a problem though. I need the measurements for a socket 478(i need measurements of the holes, and how far apart they are, etc). Does anyone know these measurements? Thanks and wish me luck.

Hi JayJay,

I think I can:
@ <-----------------> @
^ 59.44mm
|
|
|
| 76.2mm
|
|
|
@ <-----------------> @

I'm pretty sure these are for the hole dimensions you are looking for...
I believe there is also a step, but I can't remember on which side it is. Perhaps someone else knows for sure.

I hope this helped, :-)

Make sure the rad and any other blocks you get are aluminium or you will have issues with corrosion. You can buy copper HERE from DangerDen or I am sure you can pick it up from the place your shop teacher buys all the metal in your class. When I had shop I would put in orders with my teacher for anything special I wanted and he would snag it from the metal yard for me.

I think going with copper would be your best bet because most of the heatercores and rads I can think of are copper....but then again you might make one of those too

Hmm. Sounds like a problem. My shop teacher said that he doesn't have any copper thicker than 1/8", but thats not the only problem I have. Dell modified their motherboard CPU mounting holes(not the regular soceket 478 59.44mm x 76.20mm ) so the measurements are different, but I'm thinking about buying a new socket 478 motherboard(I was planning on upgrading my case, motherboard and memory anyway), but I can't do anything about the miss matched metal . I'm still going to build a regular socket 478 block. Thanks for the help, I'll try to post some pics of the finished product.

Alright. I'm 50% done with the block, so im looking for an inexpensive pump and radiator. So far, I found the Thermaltake Big Radiator(aluminum) and the Via Aqua 1300 to be inexpensive and fit for the job. Any suggestions?
