The 1366 i7 960 Owners Club

Thread Starter

hi guys thought i'd try too start a thread for ANYONE else who has recently picked up the new i7 960 chip....

Primarliy I was looking too find out if anyone has any successful overclock'z... As I'm currently running stock before I go crazy on volt and multy tweakz...... just looking for a concensus too get something started with a select few of the new i7 960 owners.

P.s. I have an i7 920 that was previously overclocked too a modest 3.875 as well,...
] PROOF

And I would like too steer away from post regarding LINIKS back too the i7 920, lets keep this all about us>>> the i7 960 enthusiastS

Here is what my ]SYS looks like now, nothing but a minor memory timing adjustment done too it at the moment....

00H I SHOULD NOTE THAT I HAVE UNCORE SET @ 3333 MEMORY @ 1600 AND THE QPI @ 6.4 GB/SEC

I've just built my new rig with a 960 and an H50, it's barely 48 hours old. It's running on stock at the moment although I've run a few short overclocking tests. I'm here because I'm concerned about my temperatures, which seem higher than other rigs I've seen, although to be fair 99.9% of them are 920s.

I had thought the 960s lower base clock would help but my idle temperatures range from 39C to 43C and the RealTemp sensor test (Prime95 for about 10 minutes) shoots that up as high as 76C (ambient 27C). Overclocking takes that into the stratosphere. I'm not sure whether there is a problem with my installation or whether the BIOS is forced to run slightly higher voltages to keep my system stable because I've got 12GB (6 x2GB). Either way I'm not thrilled at the moment, and I'm wondering whether I've made an expensive mistake. I'd kill to have your idle temperatures.

Like you, I'm also in a summer area currently. All i7's run hot, especially with high ambient temps.

So best wait to compare apples to apples when winter comes along

You may want to check you mounted your H50 correctly, as many people dont get the clips hooking in correctly the first time around. Also if you are set up using exhaust, make sure yo have damn good airflow in your case.

hey bud I like it hot in my house too. 26c here... yeah mine under OCCT runs at 68-74 c w/h50
I have NOW over-clocked too a 160 bclock for 4ghz so your temps at stock?? yes they are high, I had a problem w/h50 thermal pad so I switched too Artic Sliver 5 and idle is now around 33c and mid 50's-low60's under load... stays around 48ish while gaming for a copule of hours

so, I can only guess we would have burned our chips up on stocks collers!! LMAO!!!
but seriously just try getting a QUALITY thermal paste and reseating your h50 for some lower temps...

goodluck and get back too fill us in on your progress please

True, but at the same time I don't believe a 960 at stock should run hotter than a 920 running faster.

As noted in the other thread (http://www.overclock.net/8424507-post3485.html) I may need to reconfigure the radiator fans as intake and remount it because of the peculiarities of my case, but until I get the faulty top 230 replaced it will be a few days before I can try it and report back.

NICE TEMPS....
Let me know when you get into some overclocking>>> any chance you can show your load temps ie. run prime 95 blend test or occt and show us some voltages and timing values???
