Sounds good. Also if you have some nice speakers and amp, run the RCA's from the card. Headphones dont do justice.

(Also how bout them ugly drivers) biggrin.gif

Lol at any rate the interface is nicer than the Realtek one I was using before biggrin.gif

I don't have nice speakers unfortunately, I have some el cheapo Logitech 2.1 system which I barely use (mostly use headphones). I'd like to get some nice monitors in the coming months though.

Had to sell the Dynaco A35 vintage speakers i was using before to make room for a bigger computer desk, had to downsize on the speakers so i ended up buying the Audioengine's A2 in white, quite surprised with the sound of these little beast speakers, i might end up returning them and going home with the A5+ next week or i might consider getting the matching sub for these speakers.

I got a Cambridge Audio DACMagic 100 earlier this week. I was out of the country when it arrived and I've only been able to try it out today. mad.gif So far I am kind of impressed, but my overall impression is that's its harsh on the treble and it makes it unpleasant to listen to so I will not be keeping it. Still fun to test audio gear, though. thumb.gif Sorry the pic of the Swans sucks, my basement lighting is obviously poor florescent.

Ok so after a few more days with a lot more listening, the Xonar STX is quite bright with my ATH-M50s. There is a lack of low end that makes me want to turn up the volume more to get a more substantial fuller sound. This doesn't result in distortion at all, but the problem is that with the higher volumes the brightness becomes very fatiguing on the ears. However, I tried adding a raising the EQ of the lower frequencies (by a tiny amount; just a couple of dB) and now it sounds fantastic. The sound is a lot more full and rounded and no more fatigue from the brightness.

The card does sound a bit better than my ALC892 in terms of clarity, separation and a lot better in power (volume wise, but it has a headphone amp so that is to be expected), but is it worth $160? I'm not so sure about that, probably not for me. I feel that it's well into the price of diminishing returns IMO. IMO it is definitely overhyped (was somewhat underwhelmed because I was expecting to be blown away based on all the reviews out there. They definitely made my expectations too high). But otherwise I'm happy with it so I think I'll keep it and it'll come in handy for driving some nicer headphones in the future.

I agree that it is too bright. Ideally I would want to not have to use EQ to fix it but I only have to EQ a minute amount. I'm keeping it because I don't feel like going through the hassle of shipping it back.
