since my klipsch 2.1 are loud enough for home i decided to get some new cables to hook up my turntable setup to the computer...

XLR to RCA out
RCA x2 + http://tinyurl.com/cmmbf6b
RCA to 1/8 to computer line-In.

that way i can retire the peavey amp i use at home.

After moving into my apartment I found that I like my Swan M1 speakers for music much better than my Diva 6.2. Now that I don't have roommates only one stereo system is in order so the M1s are moving out of my bedroom and into my main entertainment living area. They fit this room much better. than the Diva 6.2F. So, I had to put my REL Stentor III subwoofer into the mix so I can get full range audio. I'm trying to tune it to the correct placement and roll off currently. I made a Hi Level cable with Speakon NL4FC connector and Dayton Audio 4 wire 13GA speaker cable. Only 3 of the wires are used.

For those who are unfamiliar with why I did this, the REL subwoofers have a Hi-Level input which connects directly to your power amplifier output terminals. The crossover witrhin the REL receives the same signal that your speakers receive, allowing it to retain the proper coloration of the bass signal and output sub bass through the woofer, as though it were an integrated piece of your speakers. In the case of my bookshelf speakers this is especially useful. I've currently set the roll off to 64 Hz but I have some more listening to do to determine if it's correct or not. The idea is to blend the two seamlessly, or as close to it as possible.

I had never used the Dayton cable before. It's pretty good. The rubber outer jacket smells awful. redface.gif I could have sleeved it but I really didn't even think about it and I forgot to order sleeving. I think it's fine without it, though. The banana plugs are from Monoprice.

The wiring into the Speakon connector is Speaker + to Speakon 1+ terminal, Second Speaker + to Speakon 2+ terminal, and one Speaker - gets connected to either 1- or 2- terminal on the Speakon connector. I used 1-. At the amplifier you connect 1+ to the left terminal and 2+ to the next speaker + terminal. Then your 1- gets connected to either - terminal on the amplifier, NEVER connect both - terminals. thumb.gif

Cool closet find! A Pioneer SX-1000TA Solid State AM/FM Receiver. circa 1968. It powers up and will pick up AM (all that I have tested), but the pots need some serious cleaning before I go any further.

I haven't even wiped the dust off of it yet

It appears to be a 60w x2 amplifier

Missing the outer wood cabinet, however..

Edit: Cleaned the pots with Deoxit and literally every problem I was experiencing went away, there is no static upon startup or shutoff as there was when I first took it apart. FM works great as well.

Should make a decent headphone amp/hi-fi system for my basement computer room.

The power supply caps will want changing too. I'd check for DC offset at the speakers outs aswell.

They are aluminum Nippon Chemi-Con electrolytics rated at 100v 1000uF and at first glance they look fine, of course I will need to check the output values to be sure but they might be ok for now, It looks like most of the issues were from dust collecting in it, it really doesnt look like it has been too heavily used.

I just got this for measuring my listening room. Biggest advantage is that it is a plug and play mic for both Mac OS X and Windows.
