I'm a believer in that the way to get the best sound is to have as little as possible between me and the original performance.
The ability to perceive differences in SD greatly depends on a system's ability to reproduce those differences.
For example, it would be of dubious value to tube roll if you sound source was a $10 MP3 player and your sound system was a set of $1.29 ear buds.
