The "what audio equipment did you buy/get today" thread [56k warning!!] - Page 194

passed on a bunch of equipment today... yamaha amp and tuner some sansui speakers ... a orphaned boston speaker (i would have bought this but the lacked the pair just had the one...) There was a ton of stuff a year ago i'd have been excited about but I have reached a point now where I kinda have too much stuff really (probably will be looking to move some stuff on pretty soon here).

bought a single LP

lol.... listening to it right now on my obsolete late 80s monster receiver (VSX-D1S) and hitachi PS-48 TT and DCM TF250 speakers sounding rather awesome indeed.

i'm surprised you didn't buy the immensely popular Ayre QB-9. I got a chance recently to check out the exaSound E20 and liked it.

Never heard about the Ayre, but a quick google search shows that it costs ALOT of money tongue.gif
The Hegel HD20 costs 1225USD, were as the Ayre costs 3250USD.

If you ask me, "investing" that much money into a DAC is not very smart.
They are just getting better and better for alot cheaper as there is so much competition.
Its not like you would hear any special difference between a 500 bucks DAC and a 30k DAC. Atleast with my honest ears. I know its little easier with speakers, but still.

Arcam irDAC is a awesome DAC too.
I would have gotten that if it wasent for the credit note I had at the store and the fact that I got it for a little cheaper.

there are a couple on Audiogon for $1800. you might of been looking at another model like the QB-9 with DSD upgrade or QA-9. I have a Mytek Stereo 192 DSD which I pitted against the Audiolab M-DAC and felt it was worth the extra $500.

Go get a little sound card or usb dac. Get a pair of amplified monitors already. I'm tired of repeating same thing over and over and over.

Cheez

Says the person who likely has no idea what is inside those amplified monitors. Oh your 10,000 cables terminate into standard wire once inside the speaker, haha. I don't think you can jugde someones amp when you likely have no idea what the design of or type of amp running inside your monitors is.

you know I'm sort of a patient man ...but cheez needs to step up off pretty quickly as he is starting to rub me the wrong way..... if you don't like my big ol' 80s amp great don't buy one.. don't care but if you don't want to hear an honest (and rather scathing assessment) of snake oil nonsense cables and the general malarky of pairing $700 speakers with thousands of dollar cables (worth not a fraction of of their price to be sure).... I suggest you tone down your I know everything and what other people like is wrong bull really right quick.

why don't you do me a favor and pop open your $700 actives and show some shots of the wire they used in that.... while your at it why don't you do me another favor (and at least give me a laugh) by bashing holes in your wall to see what the wire the electricity in your house runs through.... then why don't you make like a tree and go play in the street.... somehow I think i got that last saying off somehow??? meh you get the idea hopefully.

Wait till he see the miles and miles of cables outside his house to substation and the other signals that passed along that cable and the wiring inside his speakers that connect the amp, not even going to get into the wiring in his PC power supply and the fact that it's a switch mode power supply. Not to talk about all the other devices plug into the wall, that may use a cheap wall wart adapter, or switch mode power supply which also generate some noise, most which use low grade cheap Chinese capacitors, that usually out of specs from factory in various electronics. Some power supplies even have the noise filter choke bypass, so that company who design the power supply can save a few cents. Wonder if the few feet of $10K cables will fix all above especially when it plug into a outlet that cost around 30 cents, more likely doesn't even make a very tight connection, or have true split grounding?
