Pardon the sub-par picture, the Xperia Z doesn't do well with poor lighting (especially on "lazy" mode)

Power switch doesn't function and the dust cover went AWOL sadly. Hopefully it's a small fix thumb.gif (And I can probably make a dust cover myself)

yea that you can put some decent MM or MC (if your rich) carts on it where as mine is a ceramic so i need to get a different tone arm at least but its not worth it.
and if anything rig up a new power switch.

Well, I really have no idea what I bought TBH. I know very little about TT's but that will hopefully change.
Just noticed the needle is bent though frown.gif

If I can't get it going, he said I can always bring it back. I know of a Pioneer PL-112D for sale but that's going to be pricier. I'll just see what I can do with this one. Worst-case scenario: I have a fancy looking piece of decoration biggrin.gif (taking it back would cost me more in petrol than I paid for it ... damn you greedy government)

Any reason to buy a whole cartridge and not just a new stylus? (Better sound maybe, but the original doesn't seem to be too bad)

So far, I'm still figuring this thing out. Right now, I would say the transformer is busted but I really can't find any other cases of dead transformers in these things on the web so I think the problem lies with me . Must be missing something somewhere ... If I can't get it to spin, I'm not going to invest in it further (for now)

EDIT: It's alive!
I have managed to locate the internal fuse of the transformer (quite proud of myself biggrin.gif ) and pull it out. However... it's not one of those fuses that is easy to replace, let alone find...

And I definitely don't like the thought of a transformer without a fuse mad.gif

I can see myself spending near € 100 (mostly shipping for all the little bits and pieces from all kind of different places) to get this thing back up and running perfectly ... This one is going on the shelf for now and I'm going to take a look at that Pioneer I think. frown.gif

can you look and see which cart is on the tone arm? because if it is a ceramic but still has the proper hook ups then yes you will want to replace the cart because ceramics suck and will ruin your vinyl over time.

It's a Philips GP-400 (mk I) (the first one in this list )

EDIT: Yes, the needle has been surgically removed by my finger in an attempt to bend it back biggrin.gif

the low end frequency response is nice on that cart but the grado punches MUCH higher into the top freq. and has a better channel seperation.

Just an iphone picture as I don't feel like getting the SLR and lighting out for the temporary setup but I got my CDA-254 up and running!

354232F1-89C7-4831-B32B-75B949278854_zpsdo7tmffz.jpg

Initial impressions are that although it is rated 25 watts above my receiver (100 WPC in stereo from the receiver) it can provide alot more continua power. I don't think I have taken it above 50% yet and it is plenty loud and most important it stays clean and accurate even when cranking. There is a bit of noise from the tweeters if I put my ear next to one but its not audible from the couch and seems to be related to the socket as in the basement when I initially ran it there was silence.

After switching back and forth from my receiver to this amp a few times with the same songs the Class D Audio amp seems to provide a bit less bass but has more punch and is accurate when it does give bass. Details are much better and where the receiver loses certain instruments during certain parts of a song the Class D Audio amp keeps them separated. Overall I really like the sound from this amp.

I really like this amp and I think it can go in a pretty small enclosure as it puts off almost no heat. Even after cranking on it for awhile I can put my finger directly on the heat sink. My receiver seems like a electric heater in comparison.

Now to find some time to get it wired properly and in a case.
