I thought of creating a thread where we would post pictures of audio stuff we just bought or got from someone would be cool.
I recently bought new feet for DacMagic as it wasn't stable on the desk with 4 feet so I got 3 instead.
The feet are called RDC 2 and I bought them from Clear Audio from Germany.
Also got the Onkyo ND-S1 iPod dock. Hard to say if its any better than PC>usb at this point but the sound seems a tiny bit clearer. Also the bass is punchier - could it be?
The supplied remote works great for pausing, forwarding songs, etc.
Anyways some pics of the unit:
Though I'm able to get a very nice condition, matching tape deck to go with it for only shipping from a good friend! So all that's left is how ever much the tuner will run me when I get it.
Which does also make a nice investment, especially once fully recapped.
So I got Altec Lansing MX5021 last week to accommodate my projector which has no speaker. I will be using these purely for stereo films and HD TV programs. I have owned a couple of Altec's best multimedia PC speakers and all had their own very positive sides. This set however doesn't. The satellites are very bright but detailed, subwoofer has tight sound but if not placed on the right spot the sound will become muddy- not defined. The wireless remote control does not work properly- not from one foot away, not from 3 feet away, etc. Power cable is fixed which means you cannot add your own but its long enough for almost every setup. Speaker cables(20AWG) are also very long but here you can use your own which is a good thing.
Compared to Logitech Z-2300 the satellites are better in terms of clarity and subwoofer is tighter but not as bassy and powerful as Logitech. The "treble" / "bass" setting on the wired remote does absolutely zero.
Can I recommend these speakers?
NO. They are more expensive than Z-2300 and offer less in terms of audio satisfaction.
Edit: I forgot about the most important things why I can't recommend this set- The satellites hiss from 2 feet away. I can't hear the hissing when audio is played though them but its still annoying and I have to turn them off. I did a search on Google and it seems a lot of people have hissing issues with this particular set. Also the subwoofer hums even when its turned off! When its on the hum is only worse. My KRK sub doesn't make any hum and its hooked to the same power strip. Yes this set hisses and hums even when the signal cable is disconnected.

I've heard many cases in which re-capping and changing of the internal op-amp improves sound very, very drastically.
The caps inside the MX are like the caps from a generic, no-name PSU - lousy. They all use these purple Samxon caps.
I plan on re-capping mine in the near future and see what difference it makes.
ya this will be my first foray into tubes I am bit nervous but I am fairly sure I will like them
Just don't judge until the tubes are warmed up (2hr+ after turning it on) and burnt in (200hrs+ total playtime) I have about 50hrs on mine and counting. It just gets better and better every day
