Sell your ears! I hear they are in demand right now. Oh and grats on the amp

Got myself some 6DE7 tubes today to replace the 6EW7s. The bass is deeper, tighter, mids sound more lush, and the treble is less harsh. Still up at 4am because I can't stop listening to them.

I was suprised the first time I changed my tubes out for a different pair, I didn't expect such a difference.

I don't actually have the amp yet, I have to wait until payday before I can go and pick it up, I can't wait - I know my current speakers won't do it justice but I've bought it in mind of upgrading the speakers in year or so.

replacement orb came in, so i finally got em wired up and they sound great

not the most ideal placement on the desk. unsure if i'm gonna keep em with my computer and move the energys to the ht (replacing the front two of the take 5 sats, where they'd overpower the take 5 center), or if i'm gonna keep the energys at the computer and use the orbs elsewhere in the house.

I looked into cables but got redirected to DACs. Everyone over on head-fi agreed that a proper DAC is the next thing to get after a good amp. (if not before the amp) And to be honest, a cable nor a dac is in my budget
post #47 of 3068
Head-Fi is really crazy about cables for some reason... however people I've talked to who are in the know about headphones and audio stuff (like they build their own DACs and such) say that 95% of the cable hype is voodoo placebo.

You could also see why cables get so much praise over there when it's such a lucrative business. I mean $300 for a TWag cable!? Then look at HF and see how many people give lavish praises to the TWag... So yeah, be weary...

Not to say cables won't improve SQ, but dollar efficiency wise the cable should be the last thing you spend money on. Get new cans, new source (DAC, vinyl, etc), new amp, then get new cable. A recabled SE530 is not going to make it as good as a JH-13.

Source>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>cables. A good DAC will improve the sound far more than a cable upgrade.

However, how much a cable will improve a headphone really depends on the headphone. Some headphones (HFI-780 comes to mind) will improve greatly with a good cable, even a cheap Mogami one. Others don't respond quite as well to recabling.
