But as stated previously ALL X1600 series of cards have a 256 bit ring bus and up until now have had a 128 bit memory bus. It is a fact that ATI is doing a respin of the X1600 series which will include a 256 bit ring bus AND a 256 bit memory bus. I have also heard rumour that these cards MAY BE rebranded as the X1700 series of cards.
Possibly, however Im betting its a typo. I dont think a 256bit mem bus 1600 would be released as a sleeper. I also think that they would name it x1700 as the x1600 has caused enough confusion with it's busses LOL, we don't need another

YES, the GTO does have HDR. I have HDR in de_nuke on counter strike with both the GTOs I own.

There are differant methods of hdr. Source's method can be performed on the x800 series whereas far cry's cannot

Uhh, ok? The Ring-bus is a memory bus, or what would the point of having it even be.

It is to relay data within the core.

Well I was under the impression that ya know.. It was the memory bus that used multiple bus's (thus why its called a ring bus)..

From what I see in that its still a memory controller except in example a 256 bus it would be 4x64-bit, in the ring its 8x32-bit..

So then I guess you can call it shady naming as I guess since it's bi directional ati calls it 2x the bit width of what it really is. Hopefully someone with more knowledge can come in and fill us in Because the x1800 series is also referred to as 512bit ring bus, however it has 256 bit memory. Im assuming, that they are indeed refered to as separate, it would make the most sense. the ring bus is reffered to as 256 since it's bi directional, however the memory is still on a 128 bit bus. So my post above is wrong ^^

Maybe its like with AMD's HT where information can go out and in at the same time (2-way a.k.a. bi-way/directional)..
