xp pro acting weird

post #1 of 8
Thread Starter
i just installed a new motherboard a few weeks ago , an abit kw7.
I reformatted my drive and reinstalled xp and all my programs ect, i did some overclocking and on my way to find my new oc, i had to reset my csmos a few times .. ok now the weird part .. everytime i go to my start button and go to programs 90% of them are highlighted like i just installed them .. and after its been on for a few hours some of them go away...say its been on for a few hours i go to open up a program and it shows two or three programs highlighted .. i can close that out and go right back to it and it will have just about all of them highlighted! what gives? .. i replaced my cmos battery just incase .. but that didnt help .. thats why i am here :withstupi

It doesn't sound like a driver error, but did you update ALL your drivers after the re-install?

Does the system do this at stock speeds? Again, it doesn't sound like the problem, but it would be worth it to check the voltage on the CMOS battery.

You just might have corrupted your Windows. I would keep it at your OC'd settings (if they are stable?), format and reinstall Windows.

i dont think that this might be anything to do with drivers.

try turning the entire option OFF (the "highlight newly installed progs" one [cant remember the proper name off it] ), i think it might be somewhere in the taskbar properties,
anyways onece u turn it off, apply the settings and ok it, then if u really need those previous settings, turn it on again and see what happens.

i always leave mine off, saves me a lot of bother

your welcome ,
i also got mine switched to the classic appearance;
since my pc is aint all that good, doing so speeds it up a little cos it (the classic appearance takes up fewer resources)
