Which ram to go with...?

Thread Starter
I have a friend who's building an FX55 system, it will have either Corsair (2-3-3-6) DDR400, or OCZ Titanium (2-3-2-5) DDR400. The motherboard will be DFI UT SLI-DR. He's planning on overclocking to about 3.2Ghz.

Which ram is the best to go with? Is there something better in the same price range? Looking at about 250 dollars for 2Gigs of ram.

I seems to me that in the past few days that I read that DFI motherboards don't work well with Corair memory or just don't like it. If I had to pick I would go with the OCZ myself

I would recommend this memory. The G.Skill line right now is giving some high OCes for a good price.. This memory should land you somewhere in the 270FSB range.

I agree.

That stuff is better then the black DDR500 (HZ model) stuff if you are a gamer namely a FPS gamer.

After ordering the DDR500 sticks last night, I x'd out that order and placed an order for these 400mhz ZX light blue sticks after wrapping my head around all of this.

My theory is this: running 2gigs in 1T mode 200mhz is more then enough memory bandwidth for current gaming. The thing that is usually missing is the timings.

I'd be SUPER happy right now if these ram sticks will get me 210-220 mhz at advertised timings of 2-3-2-5.

I personally would get more out of my $200 with those awesome timings as a gamer.

At least this is the thoery.

Those look like good sticks but I would say why spend more on the name?

Of course with the mail-in rebate that newegg has on them it's almost identical.

Mail in rebates suck.

You'll want to stay away from Corsair for a couple reasons... first corsair and dfi don't always get along and second corsair is getting out of the performance ram business and they have crappy support.

OCZ makes excellent RAM and they are a good choice. but get the platinum series instead of the titanium if you plan on overclocking. the platinum is designed with overclocking in mind. the platinum pc4000 is probably the best 2gb kit on the market currently. it does run about 300 though.

the next best choice would probably be the g.skill
