Bad Company 2 HDAO On/Off?

What is the HDAO option ? What does it do?

I turned it on when I got the game and I was getting ~40-60fps and thought "Damn this game must be running like this for everybody."

I decided to turn it off and when I got in game I was getting ~60-80+ Fps everywhere I was going!

So what should I do?

This is what it does, you can barely see it. I have it off and almost everyone else has it too.

HDAO ON

HDAO OFF

Thanks guys, I'm going to leave it off then.

You're right Auld, for such a huge hit on my FPS you would you I could see it distinctly.

Dumb question guys, where exactly do u find this setting in bc2? I'm not sure if I have it on or off.

i'd say thats a pretty significant improvement (the effects of having it on). It gives models their own little shadowing, giving them much greater depth.
Although playing something like BF:BC2, turning it off is the better option because its not like you're going to notice while running around and stuff.

Under settings, in the top right corner of the first "tab" you'll see resolution and High/Medium/Low settings. Click on that High/Medium/Low list and select advanced. Then you'll see HDAO as like the last option.

not a dumb question at all, I had problems finding the graphic settings in it lol.

Go to your settings it should have a graphical section, click on it then click Advanced. Then a menu on the right should pop up which lets you tinker each different styles.

It's essentially fake self-shadowing. Those pictures posted look a little deceptive; I think the contrast was shopped Ambient Occlusion just darkens little corners, like you would see in the junction of two walls.
