stock CPU fan air flow direction??

Thread Starter
Which direction does the air flow on most stock CPU fans?? Do they blow onto the heatsink or suck air from it? I just put a 83 CFM 120mm fan in the window of my computer and I want to know if it will work better as an intake or an exhaust fan, only...im worried that if I use it as an intake...and the cpu fan extracts air from the heat sink...it will cause it to not work as efficiently
Thanks in advance

they usually blow air onto the cpu heatsink... but take a look at this to understand what is best airflow for your rig....

the front and side fans should be intake

the back fans should be exhaust

the cpu should fan blow air to fins of the heatsink

Yup most CPU fans blow towards the CPU, thats how the heat sink cools, by air being pushed over the fins, and the side case fan should be feeding the cpu fan, Like this. Case fan()-->cpu fan()-->Heatsink and CPU.

My Blue Orb II blows cool air onto the CPU, just check out this link to see how:
http://www.thermaltake.com/product/c...7/cl-p0257.asp

The Heatsink draws all the heat from your CPU, and the Fan blows cool air onto the heatsink as to cool it down and allow for more heat to be drawn from the CPU and thus the cycle continues..
