Only the Extreme Editions will have HT, it was the same with the 800 as well. What interests me is the TDP is the same as the 800 series... I thought they were supposed to run cooler.

Yes you're right!!, As i remember Intel said that the 9XX will be A little cooler & spend less energy than others...

That's what they say, but the TDP listed right there is just as high as the 800 series Smithfields... so I'm confused... and the 376 million transistor count is quite impressive, that's more than a 7800GTX!

Initial Pentium-D 9xx models have issues with speed stepping from geek.com

Quote:
Initial releases of Intel's Pentium-D 900 series, based on the Presler core, contain product models from the 920 (US$241) to the high-end Extreme Edition 955 ($999). All of these 9xx models are having what could be a BIOS issue, slated to be resolved April or after. The problem is that products arriving in Japan seem to not have their Enhanced HALT State and Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology enabled, or, if it is, then it's not working properly, or fully functional, because they're seeing a power usage of 10-15 watts greater than it should be in certain modes. The 920 and 930 series claim a TDP of 95 watts, but the 940 and 955 models both claim 130 watts. As such, the addition of 10-15 watts makes the processor hot, hot, hot! The BIOS update due out April or after may resolve the 10-15 watt issue, but there's another problem. Intel's latest *errata # AA30 states that "During an Enhanced HALT of Enhanced Intel Speed Step Technology Ratio Transition the System May Hang," meaning that if you go into one of those modes, your machine may lock up. The company has that errata marked as "PlanFix."

So there you go. If you buy one of these processors today, it will run hotter than it should. If you download the latest BIOS update in a few months, then it may solve the heating problem, but your system may also hang from time to time for no apparent reason. So, which path do you choose? wait for the next stepping, which will fix this issue.
*errata # AA30 - Intel® Pentium® D Processor 900Δ Sequence and Intel® Pentium® Processor Extreme Edition 955Δ Specification Update

Looks like they got some problems(for now)
