Enabling MKV Thumbnails in Windows 7

Thread Starter
Here is how you can add MKV thumbnail support in Windows 7.

Go here: DivX Plus Tech Preview: MKV on Windows 7

Direct Link

Download the Divx installer and run it. Uncheck everything EXCEPT DivX Plus Tech Preview: MKV on Windows 7. Also it will try to install a norton progrma - make sure you untick that box too.

I just did it on W7 64 Pro and it works.

Hope this is helpful

doesn't k-lite use the gabest .mkv splitter?

EDIT: it uses both Gabest and Haali .mkv splitter. Haali doesn't do .mkv thumbnails right, so it must be gabest that does the thumbnails.

Yeah, lol. I mean, I'm not trying to preach or anything, but theres the TOS to uphold, and all that... Just a heads up, nothing more

It contains the DivX Pro codec which is under a software license, fraunhoufer MP3 codec which is also under license, anf the full version has a couple of licensed codecs as well I believe.

I've been having a little adventure getting mkv thumbnails. Haali seems to have removed this and I was running Haali with ffdshow on my Win7 x64 Ultimate.

So I just downloaded the divx win7 thing now, remove Haali splitter (then cleaned up the filters as it just seemed to leave that lying around), install the divx stuff and made sure all the DLLs were registered, but still no thumbnails.

Re-installed Haali and interestingly I now get file information (resolution, duration, etc) in Explorer. Didn't have that show up last night. The difference being that the new Haali install has the 64-bit filters as well.

I did a graphedit on a mkv with the divx splitter bundle in place and no Haali and it won't handle it. Am I correct in my assumption that this might be related to Explorer running 64-bit and the DivX stuff being 32-bit or are the DSO items usable in both 32-bit and 64-bit from a single installation?

Just trying to figure out how I can get these mkv thumbnails working correctly and seems all suggestions I've found just don't want to work. Would be really good if I can find a proper solution to this as I'm now repacking a bunch of VC-1 WMV files into MKV since those WMV files just don't seek properly.
