OK:
1. How well would this compare with an A64 DTR 3000+?
2. EDITED If I was to combine this with a 6800GS and 2GB of RAM, would I be able to use full detail settings on BF2?
3. EDITEDHow far could I get on a this on stock cooling? (Estimate, range... e.g. 3.2-3.4GHz)
4. Is $119.55 a good deal?
5. How loud is the stock P4 fan bundled with this CPU?

3. How far could I get on a VIA chipset on stock cooling? (Estimate, range... e.g. 3.2-3.4GHz)
4. Is $119.55 a good deal?

1.If you compare both overclocked the a64 would win
2.You could do high settings but might have to turn down a few things depending on your overclock.
3. ShawnMcgrail got 3.6 on a via so Id say around there but possibly lower.
4. For a 3.6 its a decent deal. How much for the a64?
5. Mine wasn't very loud.

The 2.4AE is a GREAT deal by all means, Via chipset is no prob', Because its a 133FSB, So once you've hit 200FSB you've got 3.6Ghz which is pretty nice!

Either way though, this IS a budget chip, In NO WAY AT ALL can it compare to an A64, I guarentee the A64 will slaughter this chip!

Running full Graphic settings in which game? If your talking about BF2, I maybe high/medium, But not all high, Because even at highest speeds of that chip, You'll be CPU limited with that 6800GS. Its a weird one... You would think that it would perform very well at 3.6Ghz/200/800, Almost comparable to a highed end chip (If they ever made a stock 3.6Ghz S478) minus the HT, But it performs no where NEAR that, Its horribly crippled in some weird Intel-style (hidden) way.

I'm telling ya' man, The difference in performance you would notice is unbelievable.

When I moved over to a TRUE 3.0Ghz chip, The speed difference was unbelievable!

Same card and memory running all at stock(6800LE@400/400), I scored 3000pts more in 3DMark05 then I did with my 2.4AE@3.9 and the video card overclocked (6800LE@400/400).

It was almost like switching from a Duron, To an FX-57, Thats how much of a performance inscrease I saw. (Exaggerated... A little...)

OK, I'll get the 2.4ae for my dad, and the DTR for the family, because he needs a mobo that supports 4x184-pin RAM

EDIT: How about the 2.4ae compared to this or this?

2.Probably close but like shawn said you might have to turn down some of the eyecandy.
3.Id say around 3.2-3.4 is a good estimate.

Okay, Over Semprons, YES, I would definatly take the 2.4AE, lol.

If you can afford to shell out a bit more and Grab a 3000+/3200+ Venice it would be WELL worth it.
