Photoshop can only use 2 gb of ram, but I'm sure your CAD programs can probably use much more. Before you spend so much money on ram though, you should research them and make sure at least one or two of them can use 12 gb. Otherwise, you might as well buy less memory unless you plan to have several going simultaneously.

I swapped the HDD and RAM but I need to keep the Mobo because of the 2 Ethernet ports.

How much better is the 5870 than 2x 5700? Is it $100 worth?

Thanks. I think the G.Skill RAM helped make the price look better, although 12GB still seems a bit ridiculous. I'm not going to start CAD for another few months so I'm not even sure if I need that much RAM, it's just me having a lot of money and blowing it all lol.

Yes if you're going to be intense and have money to blow 5870 will make you feel like there's no tomorrow

Changed up the whole build.

I get to use a separate computer for CAD (if I even decide to take the course) instead of raping my wallet so I dropped the whole i7/12GB setup. Saved myself a few hundred even after adding an 80GB SSD.
