Has This Ever Happened to You?

Thread Starter
I was overclocking my eVga 7800GT CO last night using RivaTuner and I got a little too overagressive with the settings. I tried to run 3DMark05 when, during the middle of the first test sequence, I started to see artifacts. The sequence then froze completely, and my screen then flashed from a black screen to my desktop view, then back to a black screen, then my desktop, etc. After about 30 seconds of this, I reset the PC (which resets the card's settings back to the default 470/1100). I was able to watch a DVD afterward and play HL2 without any problems. Am I correct in assuming that my 7800GT suffered no immediate damage from my irresponsible experiment?

You r card should throttle down if it gets too hot. Since it put you back to your desktop the temps will go down fast. I don't think you did any damage. As long as you can play things with no artifacts after turning the OC back down.

it was unstable and thus wouldn't finish the test...and there happen to be about 12 or so tests on 05, so it would take about 30 seconds to trial run each test before it finished (or quit)
