i think its just fine. i always keep both my adsl modem and ups pluged in 24/7 and i never had problems. As for the ups i don't think it should be hot. mines never hot and i don't think its even warm. so something might be wrong there.

I have over thirty rigs runing 24/7 folding, I restart them about every 72 hours, there is less stress running them 24/7.

my friend has his pc on 24/7, never turns the adsl modem or ups off, but he has got fans on a timer that turn on everynight for a hour or so to cool down the modem and ups

I leave my system on 24/7 for weeks at a time sometimes. As long as it's not overheating you should be fine leaving it on......it's a pretty common practice.
