a guide on rewiring headphones?

Thread Starter
I was wondering if theres a guide that explains how to take apart headphones, rewire them, sleeve headphone wires, etc.
I need to sleeve my HD 202's wires becuase i want them to look different. don't like the normal black wires.

So i just need a guide that explains how to take apart and put togther headphones (don't have to be specfic to HD 202's).

thanks.

It really is totally different for each headphone. I'm about to recable my k601s... I'll take a couple pics and post them when I finish.

Each pair of headphones are completely different in construction. The only similarities are as follows:

1. Take the pad off and figure out how to take the cup apart.
2. Note the polarity before you desolder the wires from the driver so you can keep the drivers in phase when you put them back together.
3. desolder the wires from the driver. Be VERY CAREFUL when doing this! You can easily damage the drivers. Always use a temperature controlled soldering station if at all possible.
4. reverse to put them back together.

Notes:
I highly recommend you leave well enough alone. If you feel comfortable enough in your ability to perform the mod then I will make two suggestions.
1. upgrade the cable while you have everything apart.
2. use nylon multifillament for sleeving as regular sleeving will make the cable transmit friction into the headphones that you will hear. The downside of this is nylon multifillament is only readily available in one color: Black. I have seen white though.

I suggest you make them dual entry, otherwise the left channel will still have to pass through the wires in the headband

Here's a pair of K701's I recabled.

Here are some pics before and after the cable upgrade I ordered at Soloz Audio just to give you some idea how well it can look besides how well it can sound:
Had some issues with the HD555 fitting in the can casing but I worked it out. HD600 upgrade cable works exceptionally well.

I'll be finishing my rewire soon (after my cables arrive and I have time to actually make them).

It's quite easy as long as you figure out how to expose the drivers.

Forgive me, but is the reason for this only for aesthetics?
