9800xt temp discrepancy

Thread Starter
hi
i have a 9800XT with a fan that is less then perfect the overclock feature reads an idel temp of 93 degrees (with case fan on low in games i turn it all the way up and it reads about 85 full load) and ati tool reads the same temp

but i instaled riva tuner a while ago (so samurize could monitor temp and display it on desktop) and it reports a temperature 20 degrees lower

which should i go by i would really like the riva tuner to be the correct reading but im thinkin ATI tool is prolly more reliable with ati cards

thanks

The temperature probe on ATI cards is called LM63. It's located quite a distance away from the core itself, so ATI tool may be adding 20 degrees celcius to compensate.

This is the case for my 9800 Pro 256. Everest Home Edition reports my card to Idel around 57 while ATI Tool reports 77. Same goes for when it's under load. Everst says 64 while ATI Tool says 84.
