im not sure how you will be able to designate 2 partitions with the same drive letter within those instructions... point of this excercize is to have a c: partition and move the users folder to a partition other than c: with modifying the registry to ultimatly modify windows behavior.

I am not able to delete the Pro account I setup in the first place. What do I need to do to get this to work?

If all the instruction were folowed properly your new account will have no ties to the C drive.

possible the folder instructed to move werent successfull?

There's a much easier way to do this by using a few simple command-line switches. This way doesn't require any registry editing, and actually redirects the folder.

wrong, setting up a junction is a great way for corruption and poor reliability.

Elaborate? I've done the steps on that guide on many machines (including my main 30GB OCZ Vertex + 1TB HDD) for a long time and I haven't run into any problems.

Much easier and more user-friendly than unnecessarily editing the registry.

I found that the junctions totally confused the hell out of windows backup and it decided it needed to back up entire swathes of my data disk as well as my SSD, even if I told it to only create a system image. The system image it ended up creating on my large external was nice and small but for some reason the it was throwing an error and not allowing me to create it on local data drives.

I had another issue to resolve which looked like a reinstall was the way to go, so followed this guide instead of just staight symlinking. It's actually really straight forward and has resolved my nightmare backup issues entirely. Thank you KShirza!

So far so good and at least I can take frequent and often system images now (as it should be) rather than having to hook up a large external and wait two hours which was ridiculous considering it only needed to back up 10Gb or so. This problem is rife and there are many people complaining about it out there, with little or no solutions.

im glad it worked, but junctions are no mystery and this method was created to be a better salution so you dont have to resort to a junction. interesting you bring it up, but more experienced users already understand that and that is why it has not been brought up untill you did. Im glad you discovered it! if you run into any issues my method is a proper alternative.

also welcome to OCN!!

First, nice work you done there KShirza1, but i ran into a problem when changing drive letter in step 10, it said "Error Editing Value - Cannot edit Default: Error writing the value's new contents"

I'm currently using win 7 Pro. And i'm editing in my "Pro" temp user profile that you talked about.

Thanks for a bunch

i wonder if the drive you trying to change is your primary partition? make sure the value is typed correctly. make sure the second partition is healthy. finaly make sure you have proper rights as user.

if its a problem that takes more than a couple steps to troubleshoot just redo it and make sure its done solid.

good luck!
