Thanks!

That defiantly answers my question.

Hello,

I have a question a bit off, but not completely off.

I ran into WAIK an I wonder, is it possible to create a Windows 7 installation USB with all (or some) the modification made in this guide?

Did I miss the point of the WAIK?

It's just that I like the idea of having a modified OS installation more then just an image of an already installed OS.

Well, if yes.... How? smile.gif

Thanks.

Oogits.

BTW, are there any tips to improve Windows 7 witch is installed on an USB?

What modifications? if its registry tweaks then no. Do you want to make a bootable usb stick with windows 7 on?

Mmmm,

Only now I notice, my intention was to write it on the Sean's Windows 7 thread.

Sorry for the mess.

I meant the mods done using 'Sean's Windows 7 Install & Optimization Guide for SSDs & HDDs'.

I already have a bootable usb stick with windows 7 on, and wanted to know how to optimize it.

Thanks,
Oogits

Hello!

I'm a noobie on these kinds of stuff but...

When i tried to delete Users folder from C: on step 16, it had said "The action can't be completed because the folder or file in it is open in another program..." Please help! Or were we not suppose to delete it?
Im doing this with windows 8-pro-64bit \\120GB ssd & 2TB HDD
I followed the directions step-by-step, when I try to log in to the new account I get "User Profile service failed the sign-in User profile cannot be loaded" I double checked for hidden folders, everything is like it says in the article. I even system restored & started over, same thing.
I cut & pasted the default & public folders into the new User folder. I cannot figure out where it went wrong.

Do I have to change something in the user profile service??

Actually if you create a fresh install you CAN create a system image to install that is preset in any manner you desire (I have seen this used at our school and in small businesses where you want or need disparate machines to all have the same installed setup and software but don't want to run through 100's of reinstall iterations of said programs - create the system image using sysprep and it works faster). I always talked about this previously being the safest way to move from old hardware to new hardware when you don't want to do a fresh install and it is SYSPREP.

That said I just recently bought and installed a new motherboard and processor. Now I had previously used this guide to move all my user files to a larger hard drive and it worked, but on this install I set out to see if there was any other easier method and lo and behold! There is one that if you are doing a CLEAN installation uses Audit Mode (or as I love to call it SYSPREP) in order to move all your folders to a new location BEFORE you create a new user.

(I hope the OP and others do not view this as threadcrapping btw - I just thought it was the appropriate place to post this.)  As a previous user of the information in this thread the method I ran across is much simpler and requires no regedits. But it only really works on fresh installs BEFORE any user names are created. Once it is done all future user names and folders will be created using and in the secondary hard drive.

The actual reason I found it was because I was debating reloading Win7 or going with Win8. Here are the links to the relevant posts (on different forums then here so I am taking no credit!!!)

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/124198-user-profiles-create-move-during-windows-7-installation.html

and then this one was the thread I found relevant to Win8 http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/4275-user-profiles-relocate-another-partition-disk.html

Ok i followed everything word for word buy in step 15 while making changes to the registry one of the entries that pulls up in \\?\C:\Users\Pro\AppData\Local\Temp\7AAACBB5-BE72-497D-A430-780FB5A48793\ when this pulls up I modify it from C to X and change Pro to my new name but an error pulls up saying Cannot edit InstallLocation: Error writing the value's new content. Im not sure what im doing wrong. Any help would be greatly appriciated.
