not too hot, run prime to test max.
You might also want to try the HTT x 4 multiplier instead of 3 to see if that works also, I probably would be running the 4.
run the superpi 1M test to give it a quick stability run. I might be gone for a short while, its game time CSS

MAx temp for athlon cpus are 55c to 60c but i would suggest go under 55c just to be safe. since u are still using stock heatsink u have a chance to hit 3.0 with low temps.

it passes Prime95 1M test, but keeps freezing during 3dMark05. im gonna try for 2.9 (265 x 11) and see how that goes.

im running 3dmark05 w 2.9 GHz right now and my temp is around 53-55C, but my chipset temp is 52C which is showing as red....is that bad? lol

i'll post a screenshot once 3dmark is done.

ok, here is 2.9 pretty stable so far and gained a few 3dMarks:

the chipset temp in red kind of worries me...

also. here is 3.0. passes Prime95 1M test, but freezes on 3dMark05

im gonna leave it at 2.9 for now and run Prime95 and SuperPI 32M test overnight to test stability. thanks for all the help!

im so close to 3.0 i can taste it, lol.

I run mine at 2.9 every day with 1.5v. Stable as a rock. I only run 3.0+ if I want to benchmark. I would save the high voltages and high overclocks til you get the better cooler....I bet you could be stable at 3.0 with a little more vcore...this should work

VID control 1.525
VID special 110%

You running HTT x3 or 4?

im using HTTx4 and i upped the vcore to 1.525 like you said and it boots windows fine, but freezes during 3dMark05 during the first test.

i think im just gonna go ahead and order the Big Typhoon because you cant wrong with a better cooler

once i get it, then i'll try for 3.0 again. 2.9 is close enough for now. thanks guys. its people like you who make this forum awesome!

oh yea, i might just try and find an Arctic Silencer for my 7800GT as well, lol.

i want those 8000 3dMarks!

oh and to answer your question earlier. when a setting doesnt work for me, it just restarts after all the POST stuff and i just go back into the bios and change it to something else.

Good work, 2.9 is plenty fine, trust me....we will tweak your memory another time, that's the next OC. You will be able to run 3.0 no problem...I mean you are on the edge with the stock cooler, wait til you get the typhoon or whatever you decide.
8000 should be easy with the 7800GT, you overclocking your video card yet? I Might refer you to a website where I get all my drivers, It will help your score and you will get much better IQ and performance..

As far as your symptoms to the settings you try and it reboots after posting, that could be your HTT. I would almost go back and try those original settings I listed with the 273x11, memory 2.5-3-3-7, divider 166, and this time HTTx(4). That might have been the problem.
Either way, you are on your way......here's some good information on your motherboard bios, read it, learn it, live it, become it....lolz

Ok onething that i have noticed in ur cpu-z ur vcore is 1.60v??? if ur going with 2.90ghz try to find out the lowest vcore 1.60v seems too high thats why ur having high temps. keep all of ur settings right now except for the voltage replace it with 1.47v and run super_pi 32m if it passes then lower the voltage again do this till u get an error or wont let u pass super_pi then gently increase voltage to its minimum. lets say u passes 1.47v and u lowered it to 1.40v but wont let u pass then 1.47 should be ur minimum voltage.
