overclocking my Opteron 148 CAB2E - Page 6

Hey there. Recently, I just put together a system eerily similar to yours blazin, and I was wondering what your 3dmark05 scores were with everything stock. As of right now, I can't break 4900. My highest thus far is a 4891.

It gets me because I see people in the 8000 3dmark range with similar equipment to ours, and I gotta start figuring out what I'm doing wrong (IF I'm even doing anything wrong.

Thanks for yall's help

p.s. sorry for the hijack, I didn't wanna start a new thread for a question about the same processor being discussed...

Try 2.9 with same settings....Seems your overclock of 2.9+ was not prime stable..

its all good man. we're all here to help eachother, rite?

i cant remember what my 3dMark scores were, but one thing ive learned from reading a billion threads about PSU is that a good quality PSU can affect your computer. if voltage fluctuates, then its not very good for it. sorry i cant go into more detail, but i'll find you some links later for more info.

im sure that you can probably get closer to 8000 then i can because your v/c can overclock a little better then mine. everything except my CPU is at stock right now anyways, but im pretty sure it broke 5000 though because im at about ~7300 @ 2.9 GHz. i'll set it to stock when i get back and i'll post my scores.

i like your sig though, im pretty much the same except i started when i was about 13 and im 23 now

since you have the same stepping and almost same mb, why dont you try and use the same settings as me and see where it gets you. let me know if there is anything i can help you with, but im new to this as you can see. good luck!

my 2.9 is pretty stable i believe. i left Prime95 running for about a day and a half with no problems. SuperPI 32M passed and 3dMark as well.

just got my Zalman 700cu from ewiz for $29.90 shipped so guess i'll be in the NVIDIA section a little more now

I feel like a Dee Dee Dee. I was meddling around in my video card settings to see if I could figure out why I kept getting a 4800 on 3dmark05. I'm currently running a mild overclock (2530.8 1.408v 4xhtt 11xmulti 230fsb) and I was still getting the exact same freakin score. My scores on superpi dropped consistantly as I cranked the fsb up, but the 3d mark score stayed the same. Then it occured to me, some of my video card settings were set to force, not app control.

I scored a 7535 on 3dmark05 with all my video card settings set to application control.

Turns out that 3dmark05 (free version) doesn't neutralize all forced settings. Who'da thunk it.

nice. i thought under 5000 was pretty low for your config considering we have the same thing almost. im about the same as you right now, but im around 7300. i think your video card might have sumthing to do with that. impatiently waiting for my Big typhoon and zalman video cooler for 8000 marks

dude, blazin-asian. is this the memory you're using? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145450

I was thinking of buying it OR the G.Skill Extreme 1gbfx like tytlyf is running. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231035

Are you pretty happy with what you've got? I'm curious because i'm planning to upgrade my 2.4c -> 148 opty and scoop a new mobo to support it. Then i'll just have to sell my 6800 agp and buy a pci-e card

if u can spare the extra $50 the gskill would be better for overclocking. the corsairs run at 2-3-3-6, while the gskill are at 2-2-2-5. i wish i knew this in the beginning because i believe my memory may be holding me back. wanna buy my corsairs off me? lol.
