2800+ to 3200+

Thread Starter
I am trying to keep the motherboard I have for as long as I can, but I know that some day I will have to upgrade to a PCIe one. Is it worth me upgrading to an XP 3200+ to keep me going a bit longer? I may also upgrade the graphics to a 6800 and memory to a gig.

In my opinion, I don't think it is worth it to spend any more money on that system, especially from what you said. If you think about it, the cost of buying a XP3200 is about $150. With another 20-30 bucks, you can get yourself an Athlon64 3200. And that 20-30 bucks for that CPU will be money well spent because of the technological advantages for the 64. If you are looking to upgrade to PCIe, you're going to have to buy a new motherboard anyways, and I don't know of any PCIe motherboards for Socket A. You can save a lot of your old parts for the new system so you will only need to buy a new motherboard, CPU, heatsink, and PCIe vid card (assuming you go with 939). And with the big push for 64 bit computing, it really wouldn't be a bad idea.

After I built my system, I regret not going with a 64 bit system. I thought I was saving money since the motherboards and CPU were a bit cheaper, but now I wish I had spent the extra couple of bucks.
