Phase change unit help

Thread Starter
I am thinking about getting a phase change unit, but what about my graphics card, can I phase change it or will I need to go with water cooling, if so I want it to be as cheap as possible. I am thinking of getting the new ocz phase change unit for the cpu for around 300 when it comes out. leaves me about 100 for the gfx card.

I wouldnt bother phasing the gpu,if you do a dual evap system, all it will do is increase the temp of the CPU block.

I say just go with simple water cooling,it can easily be done for sub $100. Small Hydor Pump,Single Chevette Heatercore,Maze4 Gpu Block.

HydorL25-http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewIt...roduct=HD12202

1986 Chevy Chevette Heater Core-Less than $25

Assuming the Heatercore is $25(it isnt, its about $18)then the total comes out to--give or take a few cents--$100.

Hrm, thanks..

Is it "safe" to keep a phase change unit on 24/7 by the way?

Your supposed to leave it running 24/7 it is most likely to form condensation as goes from hot to cold.

The Prommy and Vapo both will run 24/7 without too many problems.
The new OCZ, well, there is why it is so cheap. In a quote from who is probably the thing's lead designer, Chilly1, he comments on not running this unit 24/7. I assume that they used a cheaper compressor, and that is why they could keep the price down. You probably will not be able to run it 24/7 without damagining it or your components.

Its Safe assumably, but i wouldnt advise it. Condensation wont form with proper insulation and such. Keep in mind,a refrigerator compressor isnt meant to run 24/7,thats why your refrigerator turns on and off when neccesary.

So,its Safe but im sure it decreases the life of your compressor.

Yeah I'm still real skeptical about the new OCZ unit, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for, and while I don't think the $800 price tags of VapoChill LS and Mach II GT are justified, these things aren't cheap either. Something has to be crap in the system, and it's probably some no-name Chinese compressor that will fizzle out under any serious continuous load.
