Total Cost of Your Machine? - Page 10

Primary system, in sig:

CPU - $200
Mobo - $180
RAM - $50
Video card - $200
Hard drives - $210
Case - $90
PSU - $80
Monitor - $250
Speakers - $180
Keyboard - $130
Mouse - $75

$1645 for everything, just over $1000 for my tower and everything in it.

Monitor and speakers would be cheaper now, but ram would be more expensive.

Phenom X4 9950---------------$165
Asus M3A79-T Deluxe----------$190
4GB DDR2-1066----------------$050
Raidmax Smilodon Case---------$090
Corsair 750TX------------------$120
(2) 4870 512MB----------------$420
DVD Drive----------------------$025
WD 150GB VelociRaptor---------$180
Logitech G9/G15----------------$150
crappy 17" monitor -------------$200
Thermaltake Spin-Q cooler-------$060
Cathodes/fans-------------------$030

Initial Build Total: ~$1600.... geez! And then upgrades:

Phenom II x4 940-----------------$200
CM HAF 932----------------------$130
3rd 4870-------------------------$130
(3) 4890s------------------------$550
850HX---------------------------$180
2nd Velociraptor 150gb-----------$170
Caviar Black/Green 500GB--------$120
+4GB ddr2-1066-----------------$050

Upgrade Total = ~$1500, so total spent on my rig to date is $3100. Holy Crap.

This next build is only ~$1200; saving a lot of money with stuff I already have, and I figured I'd go the microATX route since I would gain performance (hopefully), while forcing myself to not spend money (ie buy 3 graphics cards because you have empty slots, stuffing a hard drive cage full of drives because it's there, etc. )

These are all estimations as close to the original value as I can remember.

Audio Technica ATH-M50 - $140

Whew. Uh, is that it? Hmm... total comes to... $3,314. *head hits desk* God, I didn't think it would be that much. Well, after another 500 for a new monitor and another 200-400 for a new video card... and then another 50 for some other NZXT accessories, and then another 70 for a new webcam, I'm DONE. That is... until I can get my grubby paws on water cooling... let dollar signs flow.

G31 ASrock motherboard - 28usd
E6320 CPU w/ HSF - 45usd
Corsair CX400 PSU - 65usd
Silverstone SG02f-B Case - 70usd
RAM (OCZ PC6400 DDR2) - 10usd (seller had one good, one dead. Couldn't test, so sent both. I RMA'd, got two new sticks w/ heatspreaders )
HDD - Salvaged from old HDD enclosure.
GPU - 75usd, bought from forum ([H] a good while back).

So... I nearly spent more on my case+psu than the rest of my system, lol

Well, the monitor cost about 130usd, at Costco.
OS came with MSDNAA.
Wifi card came from another computer, but otherwise, probably about 10usd.

293usd, then another 130 for the monitor.
Mouse came from a tradeshow, keyboard... have no clue... but it's good (and not expensive).
