Logitech G35 Crackling

Thread Starter
Hey,

Yesterday for some reason while playing Call of Duty : MW2 I suddenly started hearing some crackling noises.
My G35 is only a year old and I doubt it would break that quickly. (For that price that is.)

Does anybody know a solution to this crackling noise?
Looking at a picture of the G35, I see a lot of plastic. I own Logitech's MX5000 keyboard, and the plastic on that rubs against itself and causes a crackling noise when I rest my wrists on it. That may be what is happening with your headset.

EDIT: is it coming from the tweeters or from elsewhere?

I don't know. My G35 is still working perfectly, awesome device for call of duty (surround sound). Maybe try another plug check all the connections, the cable, etc. If it is the speaker itself you could be out of luck.

Is it happening with left and right? If not it could be a hair stuck on the driver... try blowing gently into the driver...

Its happening with both sides, I tried replugging it several times. Unplugging and replugging it did work but now it doesnt seem to have any effect.

I also had my G35 headphones randomly start making crackling sounds. It also seemed to make weird noises when lifting my G5 mouse up slightly.

I managed to fix it by using a USB hub. No more crackling or weird mouse movement sounds.

Old thread boys, but the problem is the terrible sound card on the headset. The G35 will only produce distortion free sound whilst in 16bit, 16000Hz mode. Anything higher will distort. To check this, go to windows sound properties, playback. Highlight G35 and click configure. Click on the speaker icons and you will hear a crackle. Close the config window, click on G35 again then properties. Click on advanced, then change from 44100Hz to 16000 Hz. Test again in config mode.

Bloody piss poor effort from Logitech, considering the $170 AUD I paid for mine. Music is terrible in 16000Hz, games are playable. Sucks that I have a smashing gaming rig with an expensive (And crap) headset. I play BC2 maxed 4xAA and have to put up with poxy sound

Hmm do you mean the small crack before it makes a sound in the suroundsound menu? Mine even does it on 16000hz, Its really hard too hear tho. And doesn't make any cracking in music games or music which i always have it on 44100hz. But mine is under a year maybe 6 months or so. I also play mine very loud too almost max with no problems

Cracles/distorts when certain .wav files are played (Like the speaker chimes in Vista audio config), but mp3's are the worst. Does not distort with bass or in any rhythm, just random throughout songs. Games are much better, only distorting from time to time in menu screens (BC2, Cod4, CoD:MW2) or cinematics. I cannot hear the distortion @ 16000hz, even at high volume. Winamp, WMP and Nero all have the same effect with mp3's. Just seems worse after I re-formatted last week. The speakers do not seem to be failing, as high volume and bass do not affect the crackle, and sound quality is still just as good as it was out of the box.

Might buy another 5.1 Cyber Sniper headset, awesome bass and positional audio (Just have to keep them away from my border collie). Never used to bother me as I use desktop surround speakers for music, but listening to a bit of Metallica this morning reminded me how suckful the G35's are.

I am having a similar issue. Using the G35's on my laptop using the original software that came with them I had no issues only good sound. Built my new rig last week and since I could not find that original logitech disk (I know, I know) I downloaded and installed "Logitech Gaming Software 8.20.74). Since then my sound has been crap. Rumbling ,distortion in almost every game I play. Does anyone know where I might find a copy of the original driver disk? If not I'm ordering some Sennheiser PC360's next week.
