well I wanted to get a 2.8 or 3.0 for 150 CAD or less (the 2.8 went for 185 CAD though)...Now that I think about it I would like to maybe get something that can reach 4ghz on air cooling (zalman or tt cooler) Still not sure if I should take northy or prescott though...Ive decided to pick up a p4p800-e-dlx for this cpu as this is pretty much going to be a play rig to further my knowlege on OC'ing
post #13 of 21
You want to get a northy for that board. A prescott would be hard on that chipset.... I would recommend a 3GHz northy or a 2.4GHz prescott, that will give you your best shot, but, you got a tall order for a small buget

would the 875p be a better choice for prescotts?

yea, it would be a better chipset for prescotts because of native support...

Edit: but that p4p800 would do an adaquate job with a prescott.

i've got my 2.8 northy real close to 3.7 24/7 stable...with lame cooling, so a prescott might not be the best idea for OCing...but if you really want to go all the way...look for a 3.4 northy...those things are a dream!

Thats a pretty fair price...hmmm

D0 and D1 are the same stepping? I was on the intel site and for the 3.2 and 3.4's the only stepping is D1...
