I like to think of it as a tech forum. Its much more than just overclocking. And thats what makes Overclock.net so great IMO.

The PS2 has horrible graphics. My X1800XT will own it any day...heck its not even a contest. My 9600XT looked better...even my old 5200 played games better than the PS2. The fact is that you cant upgrade a console and they quickly get outpaced by PCs.

Honestly I think the PS3 and 360 will be so close you wont be able to tell the difference in graphics...kinda like comparing a 7800GTX to an X1800XT.

the PS2 had 0x antiasiasing,lol
but anyway i agree with the fact that nobody will be able to tell the difference between 360 and PS3
but keep in mind graphics is only a part of the experience

graphics
gameplay
story
innovation
unique factors
all make up a good game
specs cant make a good story!, or great gameplay

I remeber seeing shots of Devil May Cry 4 and thinking "Damn this looks just like real life." That's what I think of when I think of next gen games though I doubt the actual games will look like that.

Anyway even if the the video card in the PS3 was significantly less powerful then the 7800GTX (which it shouldn't be because Sony said it will be more powerful then two 6800 ultras) the games will still look better then what you have coming out on the pc. Look how much has come out of the ps2 emotion engine, you would never even think of getting anywhere near the same graphics out of a pc with the same specs. Now developers are writting specifically for the video card and cell processor. When they develop a game for the pc they have to accomodate a huge range of systems, there is no way your 7800GTX is reaching anywhere near it's full potential in terms of graphics so it's unfair to say "it won't look any better then what the 7800GTX can put out", you havent seen what the card can do in a rig optimized for one thing, gaming.

And that's just what it's supposed to do, when I'm going to put down $400 (or even $500 if it sells for that) for the PS3 I'll know that I'm getting my money's worth. Plus one thing that no one mentioned is that I will be able to play it on my 42" HDTV in 720p not my little 17" pc monitor and play with other people when they come over.

You again, dont understand what something can, and cannot do. If you can draw a perfectly straight line all you can do to "upgrade" that is draw it faster with the same accuracy. The CPU doesnt affect graphics in a game, it may affect how FAR you can push the graphics, but upgrading from a 3000+ to a FX-57 and still playing at the same graphics level will not make it look better. And its going to cost ALOT to make a game for the PS3. The Cell is a complicated processor, and it will be hard to get it to work efficently in games. And the 7800GTX 512 is faster than 2 6800Ultra's, which is basically what the PS3 will be using, or at least a 7800GTX at the core clock of it.

u know, the only way we should judge on graphics by is polygon/sec
pixel fill rate, and those, not pure specs. gimmi some pixels/sec or polygon/sec, then well talk

Playstation3's Nvidia-designed graphics processor ~ GPU:

-RSX aka Reality Synthesizer.
-runs at 550 Mhz
-has 1.8 TFLOPS / Teraflops floating point performance.
-is said to be more than twice as powerful as GeForce 6800
-300 million transistors (unconfirmed)
- Full HD (up to 1080p) x 2 channels

sounds like PS3 will be at least as powerful as SGI's Infinite Reality
16-pipe rack systems. (late 1990s)
each of their pipes could do about 10 million textured polygons/sec with
everything on.

the PS2 was about as powerful as 2 Infinite Reality pipes. (20 mpps)

PS3 should easily rival or surpass 16 Infinite Reality pipes (160 mpps)

since Xbox360 pushes 500 million polys/sec and 1500 million vertices/sec
(i'm going by the specs floating around) then PS3 should be almost twice
as powerful.

my guess: 3000 million (3 billion) vertices/sec - 1000 million (1
billion) polygons/sec

even if you figure in that that is PEAK theoretical performance, even 1/5
of that: 200 million polys/sec
and 600 million vertices/sec is on par with a 16 pipe Infinite Reality
system which would cost $100,000 PER pipe, IIRC.

Obviously it the specs aren 100% but I think these are pretty reliable:

1.8 TFLOPS floating point performance
