That's why the console market is so tricky.
That's also why Microsoft is so good at it. They can afford to take chances and make mistakes. But I think Microsoft really cashed in with the XBOX, anyway.

Besides, I'm sure there's more to it that we don't know...

Actually Microsoft lost a ton of money on the Xbox, and they were expecting to. They are just hoping for the Xbox360 to get out a little bit more and even if it takes them till next gen to get a firm hold then they will stick with it.

As far as consoles go, r620 and g80 don't mean much in the way of "who's got the best graphics?" right now. All there will be to look at that truly uses the features of r620 and g80 are tech demos and those kind of things. Console games use the features of their gfx chips pretty much right from the start. It can take as long as a year for pc games to really utilize the features of next-gen pc gfx cards (3DMARK gets kinda boring after a while ).

I know COD2 on XBOX360 wasn't terribly impressive, but neither was it on PC. There were some visual effects I don't remember seeing on the PC version, and I had the gfx set on max. Even the shaders and physics in FEAR didn't look as complex and realistic as the stuff in Dead or Alive 4.

Besides, think about how much it would cost to build a PC strong enough to run a game like DOA4 the way XBOX360 handles it. Like $1500-$2000 versus $400!
You can get a 7800GTX for that much! but it's not much fun by itself, and you won't be seeing any awesome PC games loaded with PS3.0 shaders for another 6 months or more anyway. Besides, consoles are coded more efficiently than PCs, so they get more out of their hardware. (can a PC with a P3 733, 64MB of RAM and a underclocked GF4 play DOOM3 the way XBOX does? ) Even when the r620 and g80 come out, I bet the XBOX360 and PS3 will still be better, especially as developers really start figuring them out.
I can build a pc for $1000 that would be more powerful from a game developer stand point than xbox 360. As to whether or not console games will own pc games, doubtful. UT07 and ID's other engine is coming out this year

I don't know what you mean by "game developer standpoint" so please explain, because for 1k your not going to get something that's graphically better then next gen consoles.

Also your forgetting that theres a much bigger market for console games and that's why they will have a much better selection and average quality and in that respect the consoles own pcs. The one thing you might have on pcs is the occasional great fps game. The people that have high end pcs don't make up a big enough market. Factor in the ease of pirating on the pc and you can see why most developers are making console games.

Sli 7800gt's are only $500.A x1900 is only $500, that's more powerful hardware than what's in the ps3, and when consoles have a game as good as CSS and UT04 Ill go to consoles

The cheapest 7800gt on newegg is $280.

Times two with shipping is about 600 + case&psu+good cpu+sli mobo+ram+hard drive+dvd drive and you're well over 1k. Plus I forgot you need to buy windows xp too.

no you dont need to buy windows xp, there are plenty of free os's capable of playing win xp games

Also btw, I just configured a system for a freind for $1135 including:
Antec Sonata II w/ 450 watt antec psu
Intel Pentium D Pressler 920
MSI 945 express
x1900xt
1GB DDR2
Maxtor 100GB hard drive
and a lg dvd burner

you can get an even cheaper processor and get under $1000. PC's are capable of things consoles simply can't do, and xbox 360's with a HD are $500 no?

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic.

360s with the hard drive are $399. The basic package is $299.

You can build a system with the same power as a console for less than $1000.

And also, the Core package is $300 (a.k.a. the pos) the regular deal is $400, not $500.
