Thanks to those who helped me with my rig, and everyone who has commented or will comment. Lot of hard work and money went into this rig, and it's performing great! Also great to look at!

Antec 902 -The Wrath of Deities -NEARLY COMPLETE

Full specs:

AMD x4 965 C3 @ 201x20= 4.02Ghz on air, 1.485vcore
MSI 790FX-GD70 @ 2400nb 1.3v, 1.4v cpu-nb, 2000 htt
8GB (4x2gb) Corsair AMD Green Dominators@ 1600 - 804Mhz
Sapphire HD5870, ASUS BIOS, Danger Den 5870 block (IC7 Diamond)
Audigy 2 ZS Platinum sound card
2x WD 640GB Caviar Blacks
Ultra x3 800 watt, 60 a single rail PSU

I'm glad to report that my temps are very nice. 31-32C idle, 49-50C load @1.488vcore

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I going for a chilly glow from the t-virus res as its blue UV double helix mocks those who peek at it through the front of the Antec 902's honeycomb mesh front panel. It will take up the bottom 6 of the 9 -5.25" bays, leaving me with two hdds and a dvd-rom. The side panel is being converted from a 80s cassette deck look to like a complete open window, at 12x15". The acrylic is being custom cut, and going to have a laser engraved design. I'm looking into etching it myself. The laser etch being an AMD logo. I like AMD, why not? I'm still thinking about fire for some reason.

EDIT: I was just informed no matter how cool etched fire with uv paint would look, it won't match the T-virus res, or theme at all. But I thought... "What theme? I might do it just to f****** do it. /cry

I'm also really interested in cutting a vent in the base of the case, so I can flip my ultra x3 850watt over, and it can suck air from under the case, and directly out back where it exhausts. IDK.

Mod 1: Watercooling loop
Mod 2: Side panel window
Mod 3: PSU vent

Simple right?

2/9/10

Well, past couple months I've been brewing this up, but I am past the point of no return. I dropped the money on ALL my watercooling parts, even a temp block while I wait on some guy in New Zealand (US2, who is an awesome as hell guy) working on a custom waterblock, an old friend in Canada from a rival forum :swearing:Nagoshi:swearing: working on a design for my side panel, a somewhat local company on the acrylic and custom engravement... FrozenQ on the res... man I'm giving a lot away.

I just want to officially start my worklog with some prototype_pics, since I have nothing officially happening.

I'm reserving two posts below this for update material. I plan to showcase the waterblock as UltraSonic2 Muffy (US2) works on it.

2/10/2010

Well, my guy US2 has come thru on some awesome work on the block. (See 4th attached pic.) That's the acrylic top. The finished block will have a second acrylic layer underneath used to channel both water exits to one barb. And then the 3mm thick milled copper block rumored to have the surface area of the whole AM3 socket bracket size. This thing is going to be sick.

Found out my acrylic cutter, for the price, isn't willing to go in depth on my laser engravement and cut. I offered $100 for the 14x16" panel, with rounded corners, and free engravement, which is only $80 normally. I offered more for the sake of quality. You know, center/off center, crooked, cracked, chipped, etc. I guess they don't do fullout, full panel designs. Simple logos and text...

As for today, I'm still waiting on a few w/c parts, and by Sun., only day off this week, I'll be able to gut this case, and get the loop going for cleaning and testing.

2/11/2010

I updated my description of the mod. A little more detailed and re adjusted. Not too much is going on. I got the rest of my w/c parts. Heatkiller 3.0, while we wait... t-line, barbs, etc... Waiting on res to get here, but I only got Sun. to do this, so I gotta strategise...<-- thats not a word?

I got a dude at work that might cut my panel, and thats cool, cause he's very interested in the block too. And I think I took his virginity on the t-virus res. HE basically sh** right there. LOL

2/12/2010

Well, this sucks. I ACTUALLY got a whole weekend off, and my res is not here. It just shipped this morning. I'll probably still do everything, just not res, lol...

2/13/2010

Well, I just switched my setup back into my old rig, and its ghetto as hell feeling / looking. Cables everywhere. I also took the time to replace the Gd-70's thermal paste under nb and sb. This is a mod we've been looking into and doing over on the OFFICIAL GD_70 Owner's Thread, with good results. I recommend it. Brought my idle temp from 57C to 47C, load I haven't tested since I JUST got the rig back up and running.

Here's the before, with no after, LOL.

UPDATE: WELL, I haven't even gotten a single screw from the mounting kit for the rad, and I think I might have broke a couple fins in the rad. The screwdriver just slipped right off. This is ridiculous. This mounting kit is FOR THIS RAD, ***!

Well, the mounting kit was wack, but the RAD came with screws that saved the day. 8 screws for fans, which had to be a specific length to go through whole fan and mount right, and enough screws to get mounting brackets attached.

I strategically placed the mounts how they are so with a couple nuts and bolts, I can use the mesh of the 200mm top fan as a mounting place. The RAD is going to sit above the case quite a bit because the mounting legs are so long. And yes, if you were wondering, the fans will fire down through rad against the airflow of the 200mm going up. I can either do that, or just take the 200mm out altogether... I thought so...

2nd UPDATE: Well, I have to figure out a way to bend the "custom mounting kit" legs to bring the rad closer to the case, or just think of a whole new way to bring it down. It brings the case to 23.5" high from feet to top of rad fans, and my space on desk is only 22" MAX! I'm probably gonna pull each one off and hammer them to be as even as possible and go with that. Probably make a run out to my local hardware store tomorrow for some custom nuts and bolts to make all this work.

EDIT: Yeah, see in third pic, the rad is WAY too high off case, lol!

2/17/2010

Well, the Canadian basterd Nagoshi came through on a render of the flame art, also thanks to his anonymous friend for drawing it! lol Looks awesome, but this is just a prototype, or w/e. Theres going to be an AMD logo in the center, and if you look close enough, you might recognize something in there...

The measurements are the amount of border from the edge of the acrylic the picture needs to center in. Or better summed up as "viewing area."

2/17/2010

K guys, got Sat and Sun. off work, so I go to get a start today. Since its all w/c related, check the bottom of post #2 for some pics and updates!

2/24/2010

Well,t eh w/c loop has come out real nice, and all my measuring was perfect. Everything fits together so smoothly, and it looks so pro to me, for first loop.

4/18/2010

Well, I'm lazy and forgot about my worklog for awhile, but rig is pretty much complete, outside front mesh panel. Great temps! I upgraded my loop from a dual rad XSPC RX240 to the RX360, ans Scythe Gentle Typhoon 1850rpms, which are great fans for a rad.

I discovered a kink in a tube down by t-line, its the exit tube from gpu to res. The way it comes down has caused a kink over time, but a little re-arrangement fixed that. That MIGHT have been a reason for bad temps not too long ago.

This section will be showcasing my watercooling en devour.
I have never put together a w/c loop, but I have researched a LONG TIME.

Water Cooling List
Watercool HEATKILLER® CPU Rev3.0 vs. US2's block
XSPC RX240 Dual Radiator, XSPC Radiator Mounting Bracket Set
Swiftech MCP655-B 12v DC Pump w/Tach Sensor
T-virus res, am I the only one that still calls it that?

All accessories, lol

Danger Den 1/2" barbs
Masterkleer toob, 7/16" id 5/8" od, for tight fit
T-line/fillport mod for easy fillup

I gotta get all this in there, PLUS SOME!?

2/10/2010

I'll be getting pics when I officially start the loop on Sun I HOPE!

2/13/2010

Still waiting on my reservoir FROZEN Q!!! He said it should be here Sat. (today, which I doubt nwo that its 4:00 int he afternoon, and mail comes at 1:00) or Mon. All good, I'm still gonna be getting most of this w/c loop going tomorrow...

2/17/2010

Got res yesterday. Looks awesome! Didnt get to play with it til I got home late last night after work tho, . So, Sat. and/or Sun. I'm looking to get the actual build moving.

Blurry !

2/20/2010

Well, today's been ****ty so far. Found out all the clamps I bought won't work, even when you pull the strip that clamps out and put around barb, it just won't re-attach at other side to clamp, so I gotta hit hardware sto for that.

Got lucky with rad mounts, I was able to hammer them down into a shallower mount, which will clear my desk my about 0.5" based on measurements right now, maybe a bit more or less once mounted and sitting in there, but i dont have plans to actully have this rig done til next weekend... I'm gonna need next week to test for leaks for sure... The tapped threads for the res for one of the barbs is stripped out. But no thanks to the barb whos rubber gasket doesn't stay where its supposed to on the barb, it pinches itself out as it gets tighter. I ran into this problem with the cpu block barbs too, but the 3 barbs on the t-line threaded SUPER tight, and didnt pinch the gasket out, .

As of right now I got the res mounted in a temp spot, not centered in the bays yet, ran a hose sized for from res to pump which are real close, with a tiny hose, you can see in pics. Bout to mark pump for mount spot, and run to hardware sto for couple things.

UPDATE #1: Well, I decided to cut the holes for the toobs in the top, and while I was at it, decided to mount rad. I just need to mod fan wires into one 3 pin fan connector, and its good to go... Might cut enough of the honeycomb mesh on 200mm fan to sneak the fan wires in through too...

UPDATE #2: Well, I just couldnt wait til tomorrow, I had to fire up the loop clampless. Its doing real good, used a spare screw to mount cpu block upright position hanging off a standoff, got a psu jumped to keep the loop running constant. Took a second to get the loop full to the brim, but its running smooth. I'm gonna drain and re-fill for 24 hour test overnight. This is just a run to test loop and clean it out a bit. Its nice too, pump is pushing the water through fast!

You can see the nose sucker thingie, my kids toys, lol... still running sweet after about an hour.

2/21/2010

Well last night wasa lot of fun leak testing and enjoying a functional, leak free w/c loop. Today was busy running around, where I ended up buying a new camera, Samsung SL420, which is awesome so far.

I got clamps, did that deal, leak tested some more. Decided I wanted to install the rig, so here I am on my first ever w/c loop. These pics are of a temp system while I wait on a couple things to finish it off. I need to center res in front bays, get mounts for second hdd, mount front bay panels, and replace rad fans. My temps aren't that great so far...

EEE! can't wait to get it finished... custom block, engraved side panel, still want to do PSU mod...

2/23/2010

Loop is running great, and looks sick. Waiting on hdd bay mount adapter before I installed all the honeycomb front bay panels. I also need to center res before I do that, but I got an idea brewing.

2/28/2010

Wanted to add pics of custom block from start to finish for everyone too!

Technically, it's not finished, needs gaskets, bolts, etc, but US2 is taking his time. I'm in no rush myself, so he's doing great! He said he was crazy for doing this, but OMG! That thing is sick! I'm envious of my own block, lol...

Well, he finished her up. What an awesome venture it's been watching it come together from across the globe. Can't wait to get it in hand, and start some testing!

3/19/2010

Wow, been awhile since I got to work on my case, WELL! I got my block from US2 awhiel ago,a nd have been admiring it. I had to wait til I got my hand son some vinegar and rubbing alcohol. Vinegar to clean tarnish I got on block by touching it, and rubbing alcohol for TIM replacement.

WELL AGAIN! I actually got the chance to clean and install it, and wow, looks great! Idle temp is down to 31C instead of 32C, and I haven't tested load yet. Pics ain't the greatest, but it gets point across.

Well, it seems as if this block is performing up to par like we hoped. I think it needs lapped, and the mounting system needs looked over. I might need to insert the back plate to help the mobo not flex and warp, this would also help with the botls that come in from the back and up through.

5/28/2010

Well, I finally went through on the only (known) 790FX northbridge block they make for the gd-70 from Anfi-Tec, very easy to install, no leak, and uses some rivet cut into barb to help keep o-rng from sqeezing out, so barbs threaded tight.

I know that joint looks kinked, but its not, I adjusted how the toob hung onto the barb to keep it from kinking, and the result is continued decent flowrate, and perfect performance.

Man, that side panel is ugly. You guys (whole forum) should help me with a design for my side panel. As of right now, its as 12x15" viewable window with a laser engraved AMD logo, maybe even the text if I WANT. I need something to go with it, something that resembles the case, or reservoir, as its an obvious aesthetic to the case, clearly for show. I was thinking fire, LOL!

2/13/2010

Nothing going on today besides case swap and prep. Almost lost a tiny twisty tie to a crevice in my case, there's a few bad scratches here and there I wish weren't. I'm currently working with a guy from work on cutting the side panel, and still designing the simple logo/text my acrylic cutter can do. The complex design will have to be done by hand w/ dremel it looks like. I will practice on my Lexa case window before I go for the gusto. I still need help on a design that fits the attitude of the case and reservoir.

2/29/2010

First major development when it comes to the case mods for this rig... First, Nagoshi finished design like Sat. before last, LOL... I've been in communication with the acrylic engraving service I used, listed in Credits on first post. They finally got the proof, modded it for panel, and got me some mock ups. Shared them with my ninja Goshi, we agreed on best one, and they cut it.

Well, it arrived today (the exact day they said it would) and it's gorgeous. Darker pics don't do it justice in my "test setup" in these pics, but the flash did its job in the first pic. Look closely, someone will see a little something in the design. I only did it for kicks, and I like OCN... "Not too shabby it is..."

AND DON'T SAY THE FLAMES AND RES DONT GO TOGETHER! So what? Least its modded...

EDIT: Forgot to add, I also grabbed some honeycomb modder's mesh for the front bay panel cover, replacing the 8- 5.25" bay adapters. That's 16 screws vs the 6 I plan to try and use to mount the mesh panel. I figure I can measure opening, add an inch to each side so when its bent, there's something to mount to, and bend tops enough to be a nice edge, and BLOW, done. 4-6 bolts and nuts would be perfect, but thinking of quick / easier way to mount and dismount panel vs screws.

3/27/2010

w00t! Finally got a chance to work on side panel, and am one step closer to "completing" this mod. Acrylic is a mess to work with, as you can tell from my snow covered head! Well, after cutting acrylic down to fit right, and cutting panel, I finally get my finished product, and its SWEET! Panel popped right on case and there she goes...

It isn't perfect, in fact, you can see a slight upward bend int he edge molding on top of panel, where the "Straight" cut wasn't so straight. LOL, but it looks great, and the imperfections are hardly noticeable.

You can see more acrylic dust / bebris from my cutting and sanding. Man, I was covered, and I had to get the Shopvac everywhere to clean most of the debris. You can even see some by the case on my desk in the one close up, lol.Oh well, was worth it. And so everyone knows, I was wearing eye protection, even tho it barely worked.
