amd life span question

Thread Starter
hey guys i was wondering if i upgraded to a watercooled cpu and overclocked it but kept the same temps as i am now if it will have the same life span?

my comp is idle 26c and load is about 31c on an amd 2800

i eventually want to upgrade to maybe 3400

dont worry about life span . ur cpu will be way outdated before it runs out of its life span

Just as long as your temps don't go to far above 60C, you should be fine. Most AMD cpus are fine up to around 60C.

The more voltage you pump through the vcore, the more heat you generate and the shorter the lifespan of your cpu. But by the time the thing gives up on you, you'll probably need to upgrade anyway.

ya by the time your cpu would die, itd be so out of date its rediculous...

You cpu won't really get hotter until you raise the voltage.

My Sempron went from 1.8 GHz, 1.4 volts to 2.4 GHz 1.55 volts. No problem at all....of course your mobo must have a pci/agp lock if you wish to REALLY overclock. You have an nforce 3 which is VERY good for overclocking IMHO.

No. Voltage is to stablize the overclock if it is not stable. More Voltage will get you higher FSB, thus getting you a higer cpu clock speed. BEWARE that it will raise your temperatures.

Please make sure thermal shutdown protection, and/or 60C temperture alarm is enabled before you raise voltage. Be aware--too much voltage could fry your cpu instantly.
