[Sponsored] Small Form Factor SilverStone SUG04-FH Mod by Zoop425

Hello OCN Members. This is not only my second or third post on this site but my first thread. I am a very dedicated member of UltimateComputers.net (which is my brothers website) But we lack case modding section. I have done allot of modding on allot of systems and cases as well as followed many projects here recently. I figured I should share my newest project with you. I also do allot of youtube videos (www.youtube.com/zoop425) So along with showing you pictures, allot of the progression will be shown in video there (I will link to it). In the past year or so I have gotten sponsored by numerous companies (such as Xigmatek, SilverStone, Steel Series, Sunbeam, Gskill, Noctua etc...) My most recent product that I received to review was the SilverStone SUG04-FH SFF case. When I opened the box, the case just begged to be modded. So after I do the video review on it, I plan to do some modding, then possibly sell it, give it away, or something else. Below are some pics of it (not mine just generic pictures)... I was to lazy to get my camera out.

What I plan to do is...

1-Cut a 120 mm hole at the top for a fan (will be centered under the handle)
2- some how invert the rear panel so that the motherboard is in front of the PSU instead of how it is now.. This will give a nicer look from the outside and give me room to do the next step.
3- cut cable management holes in MOBO Tray ( as it is there is 0 room behind it for cables.. doing what I said in step 2 and 3 will help this)
4- Get the inside Powder coated a gloss orange or white
5-get the outside powder coated either gloss orange or white
6- remove the handle (I did it today just to see how.. about 10 screws in ridiculous places lol) drill through the top of the case, and place 5-8 White Leds under it, giving it a nice glow.
7-Put on bigger case feet (MNPC Tech)
8-Put orange under glow under the case
9- install some switches at the front (on the same panel as the power switch) and change the current power switch so it matches the others
10-Switch out all of the fans for 120 mm Xigmatek orange and white led fans.
11- Put White leds in the dvd drive
12- change the side mesh for orange tinted acrylic

If you have any ideas let me know..

This will most likely be for sale/give away when its done, but if I end up keeping it I will install a 2x120 rad in the front, a fill port under one of the holes in the handle, a heat killer block on whatever cpu I would use (most likely an i3 or i5, and a pump in place of a HDD at the bottom.

I think this little case looks pretty cool. I like the design and I like how it is clearly built for portability (obviously with the Form Factor) and I am impressed with it already. I am interested to see how this turns out for sure. Maybe with the #2 point just literally take the backplate out and turn it around? I'm hoping this urns out real well.

If I just turn it around, than you will see the back side of the motherboard.. I think what I need to do is cut it down the center (going around the pci brackets) so I can switch the where they are.. Im not sure though.. I could also get a piece of Aluminum/steel, trace the rivet and screw location, then trace the PSU and Motherboard holes on the opposite sides..

Ok so I am thinking I might use this for the top grill.. What do you think?

I have to make sure that It fits under the handle.. Im not sure how big it is..

It its to big, I will just use

becuase it has a lower profile.. I am also thinking that with the top fan I will de-solder the Leds from the xigmatek fan and run them to a switch becuase if they are always on, then you wont be able to see the white leds under the handle..

I also decided that I would put a bunch of LEDs on the inside of the front plate so the light from them and the fans shine out through the side vents..

Finally I am thinking of machining some washers that will sit behind each switch so that they go with the curve of the front bezel. but then I would have to drill through solid aluminum (really thick). I will probably have about 8 switches.. I want to be able to turn on zones of lights and be able to black out the whole case.

Overkill grills are .5" thick

btw, did you see Mnpctech's new MATX billet case feet?

http://www.mnpctech.com/ITX_MATX_Com...Case_Feet.html

This will be a sweet rig

Update! Ok Im sorry I have not updated this yet.. I have not reviewed that case just yet but I have done some pre mod mods.. if that makes sense..

pics are from my phone (moto droid)

I had an Imo pivot (a 7 inch usb screen) That I got as a review product a while ago so its going in this build..

I stripped out the lcd and controller board..

this will be mounted on the back of the front panel (it is a stationary panel that has to be removed with screws)
In order to fit the controller board on how I want it, the bottom fan and fan filter have to go.. What I did was put mobo standoffs and screws on the pcb (as you can see in the above pictures) this will later be mounted on the back of the lcd..

The only issue with removing that fan is that a 2x120 rad is going there.. so I will fabricate a new bracket to push the rad about 1/2 an inch into the case.

another issue with this idea was that the on/off switch for the monitor is in the cable.. I want all the switched to be the exact same and on the front bezel.. so here is what I did..

cut out the inline switch..

stripped back both ends

and what is going to happen is Im going to get a usb header-usb 2.0 adapter to keep the cable internal.. Then, the data (green/white) will get soldered back together (from usb to monitor) and the power and ground (red/black) will run from the usb to the switch (eliminating the need to go from 12v source with a resistor) then out of the switch to the monitor.. problem solved..

I also got this nice inverter by lamptron and 4x 4 inch white cathodes for review and for this build from Performance-Pcs (thanks guys!!!)

more updates to come soon! again thank you to Mimo, performance-pcs, and silverstone so far!!! I should be doing some more with this this week, and more with the case next week
