9600 Pro Problems - Page 2

First things first, you have to make sure your card is running cool to be able to get a decent overclock from it, second.. different chips will overclock different, not a discouragement.. just advice, once you have a program to monitor temps (everest) then you should be able to see where you stand as far as cooling, btw.. your 2500+ is a great overclocker.. just needs to be cooled well, also make sure you have a power supply to handle the load (i have a 450w), you might wanna invest about $30 on the Zalman al7000 vga cooler (the one that looks like a flower), i just put it on my card and temps dropped from about 47 c during game play to about 33 c during benchmarking , your system is not that different from mine, you might not get as high an overclock on your vid card (i have the XT) but at lease you have more frame buffer .. good luck with it.

I had actually boughten the Zalman VF700-CU about a week ago only to find out the transistors on the Sapphire get in the way of the bracket. I almost wanted to keep it for the VGA RAM heat sinks but 30 bucks is abit much. Would heat sinks help my Memory Core speed much? And what kind of CPU fan would you guys suggest for my 2500+?

Which everest version do you have? if its home- it woulnt show your card temps. Try speed fan (no lickey) or just go to the everest home page and try the trail of everest ultimate - they unlock alot of unkown sensors

That's interesting, the zalman fit on my card just fine, could be b/c mine is ati and you have the sapphire, either way, its funny that everest is not reading your temp since that card has a sensor, also, the bracket on the back of the card should be elevated by the nipple screws that were provided :/ , anyway, if it don't fit.. don't wear it. Back to the issue at hand.. some 9600's were made with samsung memory, those are the ones that hit the higher memory speeds, you should be able to read the mem chips on the card itself. Also, the one thing that atitool is good for is that it torture tests your card to find the max core and max mem speeds, that process is to find max core then clock it back down to stock and find max mem, once found you can set both clocks to their max and you won't have artifacting issues.

P.S. Try to find a cooler that will fit your card since the stock cooler will not be sufficient for overclocking that card.

Yeah, Samsung memory on the card. I can't find a place for a cooler that'll fit it because the only place around i haven't gone to is CompUSA. I don't want to be reemed for 60 dollars on a 25 dollar fan. And any place on the internet I can't really try out if it'll fit or not so it's just annoying. I'm trying out the torture tests right now
