$1500 Intel Limit build, i7 920 or 860 - Page 2

I am just gonna give you some parts to consider..

For 1,500 bucks you should get 850 Watts. 650 isn't enough and your future moves are severely limited. My POS has 650Watts, I know how limited I am, buying a 1,500 buck gaming machine, you shouldn't be getting 600 of anything! You have it as you made the decision, but I warn you, change it.

CORSAIR CMPSU-850HX (get the 850TX if you don't care to be modular, save cash)

Also, with anything more than 1,200 bucks you should get a i7-920 with a X58, instead of a i7-860 with a P55 build. Triple channel RAM is your friend.

------------------------------

CASE: Just so you know, cooling properties of that case suck compared to a full ATX case like the HAF 932, and Antec 1200. If you don't care, than go for it. It's not terrible.

MOBO: ASUS P6X58D ($309.99)

RAM: A (high-end) - Kingston HyperX T1 @ 2000MHz, ($279.99 )
B (lower-end) - CORSAIR DOMINATOR@ 1600MHz, ($219.99)

i7-920, only 200 bucks at Micro Center!

HARD DRIVES (highly recommended by me) - HITACHI Deskstar 1T ($89.99 )

GPU: HD 5870 ($375-425)

CPU Cooler: CORSAIR CWCH50-1 ($70-80)

Ok, revised version - I added a hard drive - dropped down to the 5850 for video card (has plenty of power for you!) and added a heatsink + fans. If you do decide to go from my build I would either setup the s-flex fans in push/pull for the megahalem - or if you don't really plan on overclocking what I would do is take the stock 120mm from the lancool - cut out the fan and turn it into a shroud for the megahalem and use one of the 2 s-flex fans as a new exhaust. If you do want to overclock - go with push/pull for the megahalem - You will not be disappointed! Also - I don't know if the Megahalem comes with thermal grease on it stock - so I added some nice thermal compound to the list.

i'd say a i7 920 w/ WD caviar blacks, and get your GPU as late as possible so your choices stay open as long as possible
cooling; go w/ the top cooler of your choice

About 76C average (23C ambient). I'm sure they would drop a bit with another fan, better case airflow, and a reseat of the heatsink.
