New PC for my bro.

Thread Starter
My big bro wants a new pc, but what should he buy? He's willing to spend 1,000$ at the most, and the pc doesn't need a keyboard, mouse, speakers, monitor or OS. He wants it for gaming since all he does is play cs:S, but he also likes music and all the other multideia crap, so AMD or INTEL? The pc will be oc'ed and I know the HSF will be a Thermaltake Big Typhoon Thx guys.

Well if its also going to be for Multimedia I would say Intel but you will be using it for games So AMD would also be good but as seeing your doing a mixture of multimedia tasks and gaming i have to say Intel on this one.

SKT 939 Mobo - Well, not sure on this one, i hear the ASUS Fatality is good.. =]

CPU- 3700+ San Diego SKT 939

Memory - 2 x 512 OCZ Performance Series

Evga or any other brand 6800GS or get an X850Pro/XT

Not nessecarily, quality is what everyone should go for. Most of the hard drive brands are good, maxtor, seagate, hitachi. As far as CD/DVD R-RW, THAT depends on ur preference as you said.

The RAM is probably the weakest part of that system. I have that same RAM and it works fine as long as you don't mess with the timing, you can't get much better timings with it.

If you look around you may be able to find something better. I also have Kingston's ValueRAM, which is nice enough that the timings can be ajusted.

And here is 2GB of better ram:

If you're going Intel, go for a Presler. Looks like they overclock VERY well.
Not bad at all...
