Ram overclocking problem

Thread Starter
I'm running into a problem where if I over clock my ram past 840MHz I freeze right after post. I'm running 8GB of G.SKILL 8GB (4 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Quad Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5Q-8GBPQ on a 780I SLI motherboard. Could it be because i'm using all of the memory slots?

Memory voltage 2.1
NB voltage 1.4

There is going to be a limit to the RAM's OC potential, and this is likely it.

Using all the memory slots is indeed a limiting factor. When using 2x2GB you can reach a higher clock. Also check the label on your memory modules, some G-Skill PQ is rated for 1.8 - 1.9v, but there are also some batches that run 2.0 - 2.1v.

Would it be worth it to buy 1066 RAM? i'm trying to figure out how much of an increase i'll get from 800 - 1066 with an E8400 running at 4GHz, I don't have the box anymore but i've always ran it at 2.1V without problems

With a 780i, I would say it's not really worth it. Especially with the current memory module prices.
