Disk Read Error / No Hard Disk Found

Thread Starter
Hey guys. I'm working on my girlfriend's laptop, a Dell with a Celeron Proc. All of the sudden it's bee showing boot errors. It won't detect the hard drive or says there is a disk read error. My first thought was an ailing hard drive. But every 5 or 6 attempts it will boot to windows. Sometimes once it gets there it loads apps slowly, but other times it runs just fine. I am going to go ahead and backup any important data while I can, but I just want to know if this is a hard drive that's about to die or just a bad boot sector? Thanks alot.

Try to backup your data and then reformat and do a fresh install of XP and see how that goes.
