So my Case and My GPU arrived yesterday from NewEgg and look how pretty. Sorry about the low quality they are from my phone. The next ones I will take with a real camera. The next item on the list is the AMD Athlon II x4 630!!

BTW, if you guys any other pictures on ANY component I have received, just gimme a shout.

And I dont know what the deal is with the way the pic of the GPU box turned out (crappy phone CAM). Ill get new ones shortly.

I have heard alot recently about getting a Phenom II x2 550, unlocking the 3rd and 4th cores, and then OCing. Does any one know how this is possible and if its even worth the risk? I would hate to void my warranty on my first build...... And do you think that there would be a noticeable gaming performance increase over the Athlon II x4 630? I know that there is a small amount of headroom with these CPUs for OCing if you have an AM cooler.

Your Athlon x4 is fine. It's a gamble whether or not the Phenom x2 would unlock its cores, and I'm not sure if your motherboard would even support it. The small possible performance increase isn't worth the effort now that you already have the Athlon. You'd get a bigger increase buying an aftermarket cooler and overclocking.

Overclocking does technically void your CPU's warranty, but 1) the chances of overclocking killing your chip before the warranty is up is slim to none and 2) there's no way AMD would be able to tell you overclocked unless you came out and told them you did.

A NOTE TO EVERYONE!!! The components that you see in my signature are what the system is going to be AFTER COMPLETION. I did this so that everyone could see my planned components for the COMPLETION of the build. As of now I only have received the Case and GPU, but more is on the way.

Just thought to mention that so that no one thinks that I have already finished this.

From now on I will put a "*" next to the components that I have received to eliminate confusion.

I've got the same processor. Mine is still NIB at the moment though hehe...waiting on a HDD so I can put this build together. However, you're going to need more RAM definitely and I would also highly recommend a different motherboard. Honestly, grab at least a 785G chipset or 790GX or 790X. Also, with the price of DDR3 RAM dropping below DDR2, it would be cheaper to go with some DDR3 1600 and better for overclocking as well.

Thanks!

I was wondering about that, but do I really need more RAM just for XP? Eventually I'm going to upgrade to 7, but not right away.

Also, another question:

I have Windows XP Pro OEM. I have heard mixed things on wether or not I can just buy the UPGRADE version of Windows 7 and use it on this. Is this possible?

BTW, thank you all for your suggestions, I need them!

Another Thing:

What do you guys think about this board? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-366-_-Product

I was thinking about EVENTUALLY CFing 5770's so I could use this as well as for the 790GX chipset.

Of course, this would also mean that I would need a CF comaptible PSU with atleast 600w to prepare for the future. And with more DDR3 RAM im finding that the cost of my "Budget" Project is going up. Oh well, I really should get what I want instead of trying to be stuck to low price range.

And does anyone have any opinions on DDR3 options for this MOBO and CPU combo?
